Yeah, not like we're 8 points up on them with FIVE games in hand either. I mean, who's on the longest winning streak in the NHL right now? Oh right. Also Ovechkin 20 goals in his last 22 games played. Right around New Year's every year. Feel like he might be the only guy to break 50 again...

Random tangent, was watching an old episode of How I Met Your Mother where Jim Nance guest starred (the Barney Perfect Week episode) and he has a line where he says there's 2 things you don't do, and quotes you don't open up an email from Phil Simms in front of your kids. I still hate we had...

At first read I had similar reaction, like man he is tooting his own horn a lot...but really it has to be gratifying to survive long enough for the technology to develop enough to confirm theories and predictions he made so long ago.

If claimed off waivers doesn't the team only owe half his salary? Also he expires at the end of this season, must be serious salary cap concerns league wide, or teams at the 50 contract limit.

Erhoff (Kings) cleared waivers. I find that very interesting for a guy on a $1.5M deal. For him not to get claimed (seems like he can still play some), something must be going on.

I love the Dave Steckel "assault" reference. Still to this day the only time anyone ever accuses Dave Steckel of being a tough guy or committing "assault" on anything. Peeps still can't let it go it was incidental contact, tall guy and shorter guy. Extremely unfortunate result, but by no...

Moon, Uber is talking about roughing the passer. The way it's written now even minor contact with your arm/hand to the face and it's flagged. Way too often for my tastes for contact that is clearly incidental and not "roughing" in any way, shape, or form...but it does get called. I don't...

I can buy the hand contact to the face, but helmet to helmet when he's completely body wrapping Cam up is silly. I can even buy "by the book" it should get flagged with the hand to the face, but in reality there's no way that play should get flagged. I would disagree with that getting called...

It was also of the level of contact that looks dumb as fuck when they penalize it even in the regular season. I hate how black and white they make it sometimes when often it's involving guys coming off blocks just trying to get a hand on the QB that brush the head/face and get flagged 15 for it.

Yeah the cap credit thing is very strange. Overall pretty much works out as a 2nd round pick for Phaneuf. The price makes sense giving they're taking on all of the salary. Have to say a win for Toronto especially trying to clear space for a certain free agent this summer.

Hahahaha that's fucking great. Decent deal they signed him to as well. Cap hit is a little high, but 5 years is a lot better than 7 or 8. Also No move for only the first 2 years I believe then a list of teams he can be moved to after. Not a bad deal for the player or the team.

Yeah the idea of checking which offenses each team played has some merit, but Genj also pointed out the flaw in that argument in that teams can't help who they play really. I will note that as dominant as the 2000 Ravens' D was, they had their share of good fortune against Tennessee in the...

Thought we were comparing them to Denver, Denver had 52 sacks this season (led the league). But they had 14 sacks in 3 playoff games (led the playoffs) against Roethlisberger, Brady, and Newton. Pretty impressive, especially in this day and age of the passing game.

Denver's D this year maybe not as dominant overall as other great D's like Seattle's a few years ago, Ravens in 2000, Bears in '85...but their pass rush in the playoffs (and especially against Pats/Panthers) was simply unmatched. They made those recent Giants SB teams with their vaunted pass...
