Monsters and Memories (Project_N) - Old School Indie MMO

I'm hoping we'll get a "map folio" item that basically works like a spellbook, but for maps, allowing you to combine all of your maps into one item.

Regarding maps: a month ago, Shawn did confirm via the Discord that maps will be in the game. It seems that rather than being a UI element you pull up with a hotkey, they will be discrete items, and different maps will show different things. One merchant in Night Harbor could sell a normal map...

IT/Software career thread: Invert binary trees for dollars.

Hiring locally is more important than AI protections. I lost my last career due to outsourcing. That is already a problem. AI won't be a problem for a little while still at least... and even then, it seems likely that we will still need human operators in AI-integrated industries. We can learn...

The problem with WoW quests is that waaaaay too much development time is spent on them. I appreciate M&M quest design because (outside of the class quests) they are efficiently implemented but still offer a reasonable reward without being monotonous. No NPC monologuing, no cutscenes, no "kill 10...

Monsters and Memories (Project_N) - Old School Indie MMO

Outward did this (although with slightly more detail). It worked super well because the world was designed with big landmarks in mind that you could use to navigate around. Your position was never shown on the map, but if you could figure out what direction the giant purple mountain was from...

Monsters and Memories (Project_N) - Old School Indie MMO

I think there's a framework for a "cartography" skill in-game, but I'm not sure what the plans are for it. Personally, I'm neutral on whether or not to include maps inside the game. There are obvious benefits to including them, but I think it's also worth mentioning that not having access to a...

Regardless, I think it does a lot to help with the immersion of the world. I think MMORPGs need to be much more immersive today than they did yesterday because of all of the out-of-game connectivity tools (like Discord) that ruin immersion. Without enough systems in place that make the players...

I do not mind increased travel/preparation mechanics as long as the game's economy supports it. I sympathize with people like you who only have 3-4 hours to play and don't want to spend it doing prep work. If there are systems in place to outsource that prep work to poopsockers that play for 10+...

That logic is what attracts me, but since I don't know the particulars yet, I don't know how replaceable it will be.

IT/Software career thread: Invert binary trees for dollars.

My previous career has been eliminated due to outsourcing/AI so I'm pivoting to IT. Starting with support and hoping to move into databases as fast as I can. It sounds like I picked the wrong field if I'm trying to avoid getting replaced by outsourcing/AI again.

A second spellbook itself is only 1 silver, but I'm not sure how copying spells into it works. I don't play a spellcaster so I don't know if you need to rebuy all of your spells and put them in your new spellbook or if you can copy spells from an old spellbook into a new one.

Monsters and Memories (Project_N) - Old School Indie MMO

I encountered this during the last playtest. I wanted to work on Jewelcrafting, which requires being able to enchant metal. Enchanters have spells that allow them to do that, but as a rogue, I need to use the "Enchanting" tradeskill... which can only be learned from an NPC in the Enchanter's...

Monsters and Memories (Project_N) - Old School Indie MMO

The point is to add complexity to low levels, which are typically devoid of complexity and boring while also encouraging more group play. At low levels, the amount of complexity you can add to the game is limited because players lack the tools to combat complexity. You can't have meaningfully...

The team hopes to introduce a brightness/gamma slider for the next test to help out you losers who are too good for equipping a torch. Personally, I love the darkness. I carry mats for torches and campfires on my toon so I have access to them whenever it gets dark. The tank in my play group took...

Prodigal is pretty good. It's kind of like the old 2D Zelda games (specifically Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages) but has lots of modern design goodies like non-linear progression, challenge modes, and tons of postgame content (mostly in the form of new dungeons). The sequel, Veritus, comes...

I got absolutely annihilated at nats. 0-4 in CC, 2-1 in draft. I was completely under prepared for CC this season compared to last season and it showed up in a big way. Gonna play side events the rest of the weekend because there's no way I'm registering for the Calling with this deck.

The Definitive Escape Key discussion thread

Escape key should always close UI windows before clearing target. Here's my ideal priority: Close most recently-opened window. In the case of a shop where bags are automatically opened alongside the merchant window, close the merchant window first. Cancel cast/channel of ability. Clear target...

I've resolved to take Nuu to US Nationals. She's having a good weekend at Vegas right now but I think that as more people learn how to play against her, she won't do so well. Still, I'm pretty comfortable with her and I think with a little luck, I can do well. I opened a lot of Part the...

    Writers Guild Strike 2023

Things have been extremely slow. I've been lucky to keep working but most people I know have not been. Things should pick up somewhat once IATSE is done negotiating contracts this summer but I don't think we're going back to the insane amount of work we had during the pandemic.

The golden packs are a box topper for 1 in 20 boxes. They contain two alternate art Spectral Shields (they look like the normal Mistveil Spectral Shield tokens, but can come in different colors like red or green) as well as a rainbow foil version of Enigma, New Moon. However... there are...

I ended up getting 2nd place at an RTN and qualified based on Elo (I really farmed at the Calling) so I'll be going to Minneapolis. Debating between taking Uzuri or Nuu. I think Uzuri got a pretty meaningful upgrade with Just a Nick, but Nuu might have more overall power. Here's all the new...

    Hades (Supergiant Games)

They very clearly made several of the gods black and y'all pretended not to notice because the game was really good. I'm anti-DEI as well but as far as I can tell, Supergiant is just being the same they've always been. They make good games and they don't get preachy with their social politics...

The spawns in Unmoored are static too. Just learn the spawns and you know where the bosses are, same as the Everfall. Even if you don't, you can just walk around and run into a dullahan or gore monster every 100 feet.
