The New England Patriots 2014 Playoffs Thread

Love the new article on espn.com interviewing former Panthers GM bitching about the SB they lost to the Patriots. Goes over the "culture of cheating" etc and how it makes them wonder, even though he acknowledges it sounds like sour grapes. Completely glossed over in the article is the point...

Yeah, I didn't mean it as "all timer"...but you can't sleep on his Super Bowl MVP. 4 TD's in one quarter? He would have all the SB records had they wanted it that game. It was so bad just in handing the ball off to Timmy Smith (who you ask? Exactly) for the 2nd half he ended up breaking (and...

Sounds like a bunch of butt hurt Colts and Ravens fans as far as that petition goes. Had friends linking that to me last night and I couldn't help but laugh at them. Utterly ridiculous. Azeth I love that your quote list is 3/4 former Redskin greats.

Petitions for Colts/Ravens replay are hilarious. I feel like most real football fans who are not a rival of the Patriots or a whining Colts/Ravens fans have that "does anyone really give a shit" look on their faces.

Isn't that pretty much what we're all saying? He didn't get in due to titles or big playoff success, just a long career or prolonged very good numbers throwing the ball. Thus, similar players (Romo/Rivers) would need some more success or longer period of big numbers to be considered.

Clearly, the partially deflated balls were lighter in Blount's hands, thus allowing him to run for ~180 yards and 3 TD's against the Colts. They should forfeit the win...clearly.

Was a pretty competitive time though in the NFC then during the 90's. Cowboys winning 3 titles, Farve emerging with Green Bay. Ben always had that stud D helping to back him up too, although not taking anything away from the guy, I think he is a HoFer already even if that makes me sad. Ben...

Moon also has the 7th most passing yards in NFL history. When the only 6 guys ahead of you are Farve, Manning, Marino, Brees, Brady, and Elway...you kind of deserve some respect.

Right? Romo would have to be consistently good for another 5+ years to even have a whiff of consideration far later after he retires if he never achieves more playoff success than he has to date. Rivers reaching a couple AFC title games really doesn't move the needle for the Hall. To throw...

Funny that Aaron Rodgers is now saying he thinks all balls should be pumped up to a minimum amount but with no maximum being illegal. Also said that he thought a good portion of NFL QB's would actually like a more deflated ball, essentially because they were pussies with small hands.

It's not a big deal either way whether he kept running or not, I don't think anyone is claiming he would definitely had been going the other way for 6. The would have been his 3rd pick of the day for Dix that he dropped would have been a pick 6. Can't remember how much time was left but it was...

Receiver stats are REALLY a product of their area though. For reference, Swann's career was from '74-'82...If you just look at the Passing yardage leaders for those seasons, before Dan Fouts led the league 4 straight seasons from '79-'82 (3 of those topping 4,000 yards), the highest passing...

Maybe the Ravens and Seattle? I think they're both definitely on the list. However many PED's Seattle is taking leading the league in Yards and Points allowed in back to back years is ridiculous. Also the Ravens 2000 D has to be included, and to a greater extent their D the last X amount of...

I would have kept running. If you're thinking rationally enough to go down to protect the football you can protect the ball and run with it, wet field or no. Agreed about all the MM commentary though.

People sleeping on 2002 Tampa D? Sapp, Brooks, Simeon Rice, Lynch, Ronde Barber. Edit: Not saying all are in the Hall btw, or even that all would be Hall-worthy or be considered, just that I hadn't seen them mentioned and they were a great D with a ton of recognizable names.

I didn't even see in there the stupidity of calling timeout before the FG try to tie the game with 19 seconds left instead of with only 4 or 5 seconds left. As unlikely as it would have been for anything to happen, leaving Seattle with 14 seconds and a timeout was just stupid.
