With cross realm grouping you don't really need to be on the same server unless you want to get into a guild and raid together. You can group up for anything besides the current tier of raids. The dominance point trinkets are 496 and can be bought with JP. Need to at least do the unlocker quests and it requires some rep (don't know how much off the top of my head). All the JP bought stuff can be upgraded with JP as well.

Yeah ret is really weapon dependant. The cloak, tier bonus and trinkets really up dps as well. So 80k for a 502 weapon isn't that bad. I dunno what spec you took but for lower gear levels id say you can do better dps with holy avenger over sanctified wrath.
