A 2011+ Mustang V6 with the Performance Pack is very respectable. In a recent comparison it outperformed a Subaru BRZ at the track. I've owned a WRX (not the STI, mind you) and, while I enjoyed the car, the lack of torque killed it for me.

Maybe check the video card's fans themselves. One could be off-kilter, or actually rubbing against an internal wire to the card itself (I've actually had this happen before).

That's strange. To me, it sounds like a fan is spinning up and there's perhaps a wire/cord rubbing against the fan blades. Why the fan wouldn't be spinning with other games I don't know (unless they are less taxing graphically?). As a test, try taking the side panel off if it has a fan...

Granted, I don't do a lot of gaming on my PC anymore, but the games I have played support 16:10 just fine (I can confirm Guild Wars 2 and WoW). I really can't imagine a game strictly forcing 1920x1080 on you.

Dell UltraSharp U2412M IPSmonitors are amazing. Plus they have a 1920x1200 resolution. I can't recommend them enough.

It's because VY Canis Majoris has an extremely low density. It's a star that's at the end of its life and has swollen up to an extreme size. Something similar will happen to our sun -- it'll puff up multiple times it's current size but it's mass will be (about) the same.
