With Blood Elves in particular, I didn't know they came in shades of pure ebony. I find it tacky and nonsensical to shoehorn things like that in for inclusion purposes in regards to fantasy races. Some people care about stupid shit like races and lore. But yeah, muh racism.

They've been working on it for years now. Either they're being disingenuous with their goals (and they know it) or they're the most competent MMORPG team in existence.

The fear factor from dying is something sorely missing from MMORPGs these days, among other things. If you don't really fear the world you can't respect the world. Everything outside of the hardest raids is just another scaling target dummy to beat on.
