Obviously it doesn't "always work" nothing "always works" in the NFL.

It's hard to argue that having better draft position isn't a positive, though

Especially when the year in question was Burrow going #1 right? Dolphins started that year 0-7, and were 2-9 with 5 games to go. If they lost out, their strength of schedule tiebreaker that year would have had them pick at #1. Instead they won 3 of their last 5 games and picked 5th.

The worst part is they took Tua over Herbert. If Tua looks like hot garbage this year with both Waddle and Hill and a new coaching staff then that front office messed up big time.

Tanking for the top QB instead of the #2/3 guy off the board doesn't make sense to me. In the last 10 years of drafts, there's been more bust QBs that have been the first QB off the board than not. Bucs tanked in 14 which lead them to Jameis, and that didn't work out for them at all

2021 - Trevor Lawrence
2020 - Joe Burrow
2019 - Kyler Murray
2018 - Baker Mayfield
2017 - Myles Garrett
2016 - Jared Goff
2015 - Jameis Winston
2014 - Jadeveon Clowney
2013 - Eric Fisher
2012 - Andrew Luck
2011 - Cam Newton

Newton was the stereotypical black RB with an arm, maybe the most successful of that type so far, but his body fell apart pretty fast. If he'd sealed the deal in Super Bowl 50 maybe he'd be regarded better.

Luck was a no-brainer and probably the best player to ever have his career ruined by a poorly run franchise.

Fisher is/was skilled but injury prone, including a torn Achilles the game before Super Bowl 55 when Mahomes lack of a line was devastating.

Clowney has been injury prone but productive in spite of it.

Squinston has been a cosmic joke, not the worst first overall ever but one of the worst. 2015 was a shit year, the best career so far out of that year is probably Stefon Diggs who went in the fifth round.

Goof at least made it to a Super Bowl before being exiled to Detroit for a real QB.

Garrett is a scumbag piece of shit but he's been getting it done on the field.

Mayfield seems like a victim of bad management. He looked ok in 2019 and great in 2020, but should not have been allowed to play 2021 with a torn labrum, we'll see how his career goes with a different iffy franchise.

Murray was the best QB in the draft and the Cardinals needed one after Rosen turned out to be a bust. Hindsight being 20/20 I'd still rather have Nick Bosa.

Burrow will either be a first ballot Hall of Famer or he will replace Luck as the best player to ever have his career ruined by a poorly run franchise.

Lawrence gets a pass on the 2021 season, poor bastard.

Yeah you always have to wonder what their careers would have been if they weren't drafted by a garbage team.

So NFL filed an appeal regarding the Watson punishment. One reporter is saying they're looking to suspend him a year and fine him $10M. For the Browns, they knew that he was going to be suspended, for maybe a year or more (they structured Watson's 1st year to be a 1M salary).

They traded away picks, gave this dude a fully guaranteed contract on top of that? I don't get as the owner how this was preferable than just keeping Baker. Hell if the coaching/GM staff say they couldn't make it work with Baker - maybe fire them first? Would have been a far cheaper solution with much less of a PR nightmare

I completely agree with you on Mayfield. I'm sure he wanted to play through it all last year but that should not have been allowed...Browns just so desperate for success.

Kind of think this is BS. You already had an independent judge decide this. One year seems a bit much IMO especially given the reasons the 1st judge gave. Is Goodell looking to avoid that Texans vs Browns game? Or genuinely thinks Watson deserves a stiffer sentence. Never fuckin mind an indefinite suspension.

More likely he just wants to be seen pushing for a harsher punishment considering the terrible optics around the situation.

pre-season has pretty much arrived with that HoF game, so one of you needs to make a new season thread with an actually funny title

Is it almost time for us to rent at each other 3-4 hours a week every time there’s a bad play?

Thankfully we don’t post everything here or we’d come across like Jozu.
