We already went through this exact scenario when we decided to pass on Kalil Mack in favor of the two mid tier guys we signed. Mack went on to terrorize us and the two other guys were never healthy at the same time while costing us nearly as much as Mack. And before that when we went and got White, we went to two SB and won one. With the youth of the team, we have a fair amount of cap space to play with for the next three years, at least. Four years from now (or if Love keeps getting dinged up) it will be a different story, but we will at least know his worth to the team fully by then.
And thing is elite LBs are rarer than capable QBs in the NFL, especially in the modern era. There are maybe half a dozen guys who play to the level of Parsons (Hutch being the other standout). But even on our roster, we have a pretty decent backup with Malik, who has won most of his starts. This was the perfect pick up at the best possible time for us. And we are still the youngest roster in the league. And given our style of offense, Parsons won't have to put the team on his back like he did in Dallas. It might all to go shit, but given the known facts its just an amazing trade for us.
Remember also that the guy he is replacing effectively was a worse run defender than he was (and fell off in numerous stats the last two years), but a proven lockeroom leader. Thing is that SHOULD be good for Dallas, but I think there is just too much drama for it to matter. And yeah the guy Jerrah should have grabbed to save some face would have been Gary. Taking Clark solved even more problems for us in the end. The only thing a couple of late 1st rounders will potentially do for the Cowboys is maybe give them a shot at a serviceable CB or WR. Not elite, but good enough for the money. And Dallas probably needs some depth in both areas, so I don't entirely laugh at that rationalization as pure cope. But they handled this whole thing in the worst possible way because thats what Jerrah does.

Believe me the run D stuff is just Jerry speak trying to justify the deal. Dallas' D literally had the best EPA in the league the last few years when he was on the field and literally had the worst EPA on D those same few years when he wasn't on the field. He wants better run D he shouldn't have whiffed so hard on Mazi Smith.
