Its a similar premise in that both have fast "zombies". That being said, 28days later was a scarier premise. They are not zombies per say with 28days later. 28days and 28weeks later were both better movies that World War Z. If you like these sorts of movies, I am not sure how you managed not to watch 28days later.
I've never been a fan of horror movies. I only saw them when friends wanted to go, so I joined up.

When I started reading this thread, I thought it was the movie with Brad Pitt & the running zombies. This video clip shows me I've never actually seen 28 days later.
The soundtrack/score is worth it alone

Fairly close together we had the Dawn of the Dead remake (entertaining but kinda schlocky remake in not much more than name), Shawn of the Dead (parody that surprises you with its depth) and 28 Days Later (serious, artsy but in a good way). That was a fine time to put the genre on a shelf for a while but we got so much crap after that.

I'm assuming you're talking about 28 Days later and not the stupid World War z movie. The 28 Days later soundtrack is stupendous. It has a lot of godspeed you black emperor vibes to it.

Dawn of the Dead remake was uneven in parts, but the start of the movie was legitimately some great horror. Really encapsulates how quickly things would go to shit if you had sprinting zombies that reanimated extremely quickly

I remember being really excited about seeing that in the theater and my current roommate and I went and saw it in the theater on opening night. It was a great film. I just remember seeing all of the previews and being very excited for it and it did a pretty good job of delivering.

There's a director's cut which I don't think it adds a whole hell of a lot, but it's still pretty good and I might watch it once every couple of years.

You knew the movie was going to go fucking hard from the opening with the shot that pulls way back from the ambulance and shows it getting t-boned spectacularly.

Didn't care for Hereditary or Barbarian? Or 28 Days Later?

Or Train to Busan, Babadook, It Follows, One Cut of the Dead, Talk To Me, Oddity, Strange Darling, etc etc

Lots of horror movies get a lot of praise from critics, just not the PG-13 teen horror slop usually.

Can't wait to see this one.

The only one I never got into out of that list (those lists) was Oddity. Just thought it wasn’t great. Oh and Black Phone. Otherwise I tend to trust those initial impressions a little more than generic Hollywood films. Or at least take it as a more positive barometer for what may interest me. That and FoH horror bros.

The problem is there are so many just really good horror movies from independent productions but it really depends upon what you like. You got slow burn and real atmospheric, couple of characters in a singular location, and it's just building on tension. You just have over the top whatever, and then everything in between.

I watched an Australian film that was kind of a slapstick dark comedy the other day with Monica bellucci, and she still looked good, called Nekromatic or Nekrotrinic. Had a title stupid that was stupid, but it was fun, but at least it was somewhat original and you can really tell they tried to make it just a fun movie. I surprisingly enjoyed it, and for being a relatively probably the budget film it was well produced.

I've been meaning to look it up but I think it's maybe by the same guys who did Wormwood which was an Australian zombie low budget dark comedy deal, and yeah not that great but was still something you could appreciate for just the level of effort they were putting in.

I'm to the point where I'd rather watch that sort of stuff then big Blockbuster production.

I need to watch the black phone movie because I just wrote it off thinking it was some dumb Blumhouse film but I guess it's actually based on a Joe Hill book, and there's the second one coming out so we'll see.

All three of those are great movies, and I think the barbarian movie was made by one of the whitest kids you know sketch comedy troop guys.

I remember going and seeing 28 Days later in the movie theater back in college and it was amazing. I also saw hereditary in the theater and that was probably the greatest horror movie I had seen in the past decade but it may be longer than that at this point, I don't know, but it's so good.

Wife and I caught this today. She felt bad I always see things like the Barbie Movie / Wicked and so we checked this out. I am a big fan of zombie movies in general, always have been. 28 Days Later was top tier for me and my youth. I liked 28 Years Later as well, but it wasn't quite as ground breaking for me. Generally, the better the gut punch of hopelessness at the end the better.

I liked this movie, but it wasn't so much a traditional zombie movie. It was a more normal-ish family story with a zombie backdrop. The ending took a turn I am still processing, but overall it was enjoyable. Didn't feel too short or overly long. It seemed to start with a similar grainy British film style from the first but then crisped up slowly as you worked into the film. It even had a bit of comedy thrown in the middle for some levity. The atmosphere worked well, the soundtrack didn't stick out much. It was fairly subtle.

The one thing I had to get over right away was the general timing and assumptions. 28 Days Later, sense making. 28 Weeks Later, sense making. 28 Years Later? We have a bunch of folks quarantined on an island and the international community is just like 'good luck'? Not even air drops of food, etc. Seems strange, but it could just be they were a remote and isolated community or that type of delivery caused mad max like fighting so it was stopped.

That said, good first outing, with the father. He is likable, even with his fall from grace, and comes off well.

The son is not annoying and holds up well throughout the movie.

The second outing with son / mother was fine except for maybe how it started. I really think there was a better option to burn to get things started that wasn't all the critical supplies needed from the home town.

Encounter with the Navy guys was some nice moments of comedy to break things up. The contrast play was fun.

I have mixed feelings on the pregnant zombie. Seems the implication the Alpha can impregnate and they are still people or there is some flavor of incredibly long gestation period of zombie babies.

I would have loved to see the casting call for the alpha. 'We need a giant man, must have similarly sized penis, must be ok with having it out for the entire movie flopping about'.

Ralph Fiennes, great as always. Though I do wonder how he can bathe in Iodine for 28 years. Must have barrels of that laying about.

Ninja tracksuit warrior squad...was...weird? I get it, there could be multiple 'tribes' on the island and this is just one that evolved differently, but it wasn't quite right.

I hope this does well enough for them to follow up with more and finish it out.

The only media I've seen regarding it was the director or writer talking about how the "horrors" of the covid-19 pandemic in the UK inspired them...
So everyone’s just working from home and watching Netflix while zombies are outside?
