Plus then you get to deal with all the people who came in and got a "badass" fish and now wants to get rid of it because it outgrew the 10 gallon tank they put it in. The fish store I used to go to had a tank that was full of oversize Oscars that people brought back because the guy that ran the store was a softie.

Exactly BrutalTM. Basically each normal family thinks a 55 gallon aquarium is huge! So that's the biggest aquarium they'll own. I can either sell them a pair of oscars and lets say an arrowana and clear $100 for that tank. Or I can sell them live plants and a couple hundred tetras and clear about $1000.

Also by carrying feeder goldfish you neuter yourself in pond season. Many pond owners come in and ask for feeders or your cheapest pond fish. The bastards will literally drop $50 on feeders and wipe out your supply and most of them die anyways. They're much better off buying a fish for $3 each and much bigger/hardier than 500 feeders in their tiny pond and have most die off.

Lol this shit just gets better and better. Today my plumber got an email that said the city I'm in is not responsible for the address I'm at. It's like this little sub section of a water company. So tomorrow I'll find out whats up. I think it can only get better from here. The weak thing is my plumber now has a business license in my city that he can't even use on my permit.... It took them 2 weeks to figure out I'm not in their water district.
IMO this is a form of corruption. These problems wouldn't exist for you (or to a much lesser extent) if you were a big corporation instead of a single person trying to start a business. The fact that the state treats different people differently is discrimination. Unfortunately it's also reality. I worked for about 6 months to open a retail business on my own and one of the things that made me abandon the plan was bureaucracy.

These problems exist across the board because government, as a rule, is inefficient. Regulations do less to help anyone and do more to tax/burden/red-tape businesses to death. The government doesn't care if they're big or little.

The difference is not that state's treat companies differently, but rather that large corporations can shoulder the burden more easily. Some states, including my home state, are having to come up with "creative" tax loopholes for landowners, because property taxes are so outrageous. If you're land rich and money poor, you almost can't afford to own your land anymore. So, now, at least in GA, landowners can sell off tax credits on their land to wealthy "city-folk" for 80 cents on the dollar.

So, instead of fixing the problem. The government just creates another loophole. This is only one of hundreds of reasons as to why the tax burden is becoming outrageous in America.

TLDR; government is too stupid to fix itself

Back years ago when I had a freshwater planted tank, I always preferred a tank full of one species, like the little goofy neon tetras. Put a whole lot (but no too much) in there, and with the beautiful plants and a bunch of one fish, looked so good. What was that guys name, Amaro or something? That is considered the god of planted tanks. He's Japanese or something.

Takashi Amano. I think Corndog said a competitor was carrying ADA products? Would be cool to carry their products if no one else in the area was.

I have never been any good at plants but a nice planted tank with a shitload of neon tetras in it is a great looking setup. Only problem with neons is that they die if you look at them funny.

Speaking of plants, maybe Corndog knows the answer to this. Many years ago (2000ish) I used to buy these packages of bulbs from Walmart. I think it was some sort of water lily. They grew super fast and would look great for a while and then eventually grow a flower before going dormant and looking shitty. I just threw them away when they started to look bad and threw in another bulb. Always thought they were cool and never saw them anywhere after Walmart stopped carrying them. Any idea what those were and is it possible to get them anymore?

Yeah. They were called "Wonder Bulbs". They're bulbs just like bulbs for a garden. They are lilly species and apontogeton species. They are great, but it's hard for a store like me to get them in a package. I can order them outside of a package, but being in a package is what gets people to try them. I know Petsmart currently carries them. I will be trying to track them down, as I'm a big fan of lets see what you get when you put these in your tank things.

Had the fire marshal walk through on Monday and I was a-ok. He says my business license should arrive in the mail next week. Said I could open that day if I wanted. So I'm setting my soft opening date for the 22nd. Still lots of things to setup, as I wasn't allowed to setup anything more since last monday. Did a Fish swap meet over the weekend. Had a lot of buzz at my booth. Had a fish club meeting last night and tonight. Donating a years supply worth of frozen bloodworms to be auctioned off, and announcing my opening date.

I can't believe you haven't opened yet. Most of the time, the city is so inefficient that they don't even notice you are open. I can think of two towns where we do business, that they have no idea if we are properly licensed or not. One town where we have our office and trucks located, they instituted business licenses but didn't tell anyone. It took them four years to come tell us that we didn't have one!

Today went great. 24 paying customers. The customers were only word of mouth. Haven't even done an announcement on the facebook or website yet. Did almost 1k in sales today.

Dry goods are doubled, fish are doubled to tripled. So profit would roughly be $175 probably. My rent is cheap only $850.
