I've used words like ebony skin to get decent results for drow, you might want to give it a try, but sometimes yeah it just doesn't want to do what you're asking.
I've decided to make some landscapes from EverQuest, starting with Faydwer zones :

Estate of Unrest (in-game it looks so dark it might as well be underground but an underground estate doesn't make much sense to me, so I made it a seaside estate since there is no zones beyond it and Faydwer is a small continent).

Those are really nice. I haven't used Dall-E lately, does it go off a base image for these or just prompts?
Midjourney will do dark elves easily but it's been harder to get it to create that EQ feel that your pics have.
