To be fair Alien 3 isn't Alien 3. It was a bastardization done during filming.
I know, but I still enjoyed it back in the day and I enjoyed the directors cut even more. I think I even have the two comics that Dark horse put out for the film.

I like it too. It's just way different than what was intended.

It makes discussing shows on here hard. You will get a couple people talking about it in good faith, then drive by posts of someone complaining about a black person existing, then posts from people who are basing their opinions on a 2 min YouTube short from a troll clicker farmer like Drinker or when they watched it half paying attention on their phone.

Dr.Retarded Dr.Retarded may not like the show, but thats because his expectations on what makes Alien Alien is not what this show is trying to do and that's a fair complaint and I have no problem with it. He actually watched it and decided it wasnt for him. Good. Thats how it should be.

I so far like the show because its trying to do something different then other Alien content, but that doesn't negate his opinion on it. This is kinda catered towards what I like in TV but I kinda figured would have been since Hawley is Hawley.

Its not a surprise to me he is far more interested in what makes a human a human and the ethical consequences of creating artificial life, augmented humans or straight synthetic beings that are property but with human minds loaded into them. And maybe that shoulda just been a different IP but I am not basing his handling of the Alien itself on two episodes when its clear they are moving to an island that is going to turn into horror land for the human occupants as everything breaks containment and starting killing everyone.
I really want it to be good and that's why I'm not going to pass final judgment until I watch the whole series, I'm just not getting a good vibe right now. I mean the fact that they're actually making it and I got off the ground is pretty amazing, but then I see the stupid new predator movie that's coming out and the last one I'm just kind of like oh no. I watched Romulus and I don't even remember what the hell happened because it was just that forgettable.

Hopefully that changes and I'm more than happy to eat crow at the end and say this is one of the greatest shows I've ever watched, but I don't think that's going to be the case. Also haven't watched anything by this guy before so not really certain what to expect, but I've watched the original films countless times and I guess I have certain expectations.

My favorite TV show is probably Battlestar Galactica, and if I can get the same amount of enjoyment and anticipation for watching every episode like I did with that show, I would be completely happy. I know it wasn't necessarily perfect and I was critical of the last season or two, but it really was the last time I was invested in a TV show much.

Part of me wishes we would have gotten the wooden planet monastery movie just because it would have been so insane, but I still wish they would have just followed the damn comics and gone into aliens Earth war.

I did notice the fact that Wendy was hearing weird alien talk, and with the little clip that kroenen kroenen linked, I wonder if they're going to do that whole aspect of the comics where the queen aliens send out telepathic signals and you start getting an alien called building up which leads into the whole earth war deal. Could be at least a faithful and decent direction.

Would be pretty amazing. I just don't know how they could do that on this timeline with the movies.

This is where we differ, and an argument I'm probably going to have in the new Resident Evil (2026) thread.

Why do we expect these movies to recreate the things we like beat for beat when they have proven they cannot do it? RE was a 40 hour puzzle game, it is not going to fit into a 1 1/2 hour movie that cannot show the puzzles well. I want someone who gets the aesthetic, plot, and feel right while maintaining a non-retarded story.

At least with this they are free to fuck it up because then we can ignore it and not say "well now they can never remake the comic again because it will always be tainted by this shitty adaption."

I agree with you, but that's just modern day Hollywood. The problem is they turn out some movie or project that's baked with all of those member-berries and you're supposed to just love it. Look at that Romulus movie, it was just pure fan service.

I'm totally happy and fine with people actually doing something brand new and creative and not milking old IPs, but unfortunately you get this type of stuff, and if you're going to do it, at least try to do it right. That's not to say that the guy directing it and stuff isn't trying, and I know I always mention the comic books, but the comics really were just an extended universe and roadmap to being able to do it completely successfully without really screwing it up. The stories in there were just so much better, and that's why the people that behind those comics made them in the first place, because the Hollywood wasn't giving them anything worth a shit.

Weren't people pretty pissed that Star Wars threw out all of the extended universe novels and comics and all that stuff when they did the new trilogy?

Mixed bag. Most people thought a lot of the EU was trash, but there were some obvious good ideas in there, some of which they did go with and make canon (Thrawn, etc). Obviously now with how bad the new trilogy was the EU looks better by comparison, although in varying degrees.

They cant do it because theyre shitty writers who dont care about the IP to begin with. They want to tell their own shit story(in this case some gits/bladerunner knock off) but need to wrap it in a successful IP to get people to watch it.

If they where decent writers they could easily take the fleshed out universe that already existed and run with it. I dont care enough about any IP to watch something just because it bares its name.
Should add this would be so much better if it was just about corpo wars in this universe with maybe a splash of “aliens” more in the style of Andor
This is the direction the franchise should have gone after Aliens.

The alien design was no longer unique or eye catching and you wherent gonna top a competent director like Cameron.

I would definitely watch an Alien Corpo Wars series. A lot of people would be in here bitching about how that's not what the Alien Universe is about though.

Thank fuck there wasn’t blatant scenes of smashing the viewers face into callbacks like that last alien movie

it’s soso and it is a stretch for truly finding things to complain about to where’s it’s nitpicky

Not sure if I was seeing things right or just bias but it looked like some of those kids got turn into more colorful versions of themselves when I thought they were white

they need to lose the music that pops up at the end lie they are trying to be the boys where that is more modern

The rate the alien kills things is way to fast to where it’s comical as if it it touches a person and they are instantly ripped apart

Glad I wasn't the only one who noticed the stupid modern-day music. It's like what the hell is the point of adding that. It doesn't really make it any better. I mean it would be fine if it was set in present day but way in the future, leave it out. That's why I still believe that this was a committee project and that you said type of stuff or hooks to get a younger audience and invested into the franchise.

There's only two white androids, Wendy and Olifant. I do think that the bald guy that talks to the stupid CEO might be an Android as well. I think the kids look darker just because maybe they're adults in adult bodies, but who the hell knows.

No they only listed Wayland and Yutani and I guess prodigy. I don't know who the other two are. I'm guessing synths are Weyland, Yutani is cyborgs, and prodigy is obviously the hybrids.

I didn't find it pretty goofy that magician gym was able to put out a welding torch from his fist like RoboCop but then he also had a knife that came out of the same spot. Maybe it rotates in his arm or something Goofy. It's the future magical things can happen!

He'll probably end up being a heroic character by the ass end of this, and he's probably a spy for the Yutani.

The songs are supposed to tie into the episode per the lyrics. At least according to some video I saw on it.

According to Gemini the five companies are

Weyland-Yutani, Lynch, Dynamic, Threshold, and Prodigy.

Cyberdyne definitely would have been cooler. I guess that was just a Cameron reference though.

So Earth is controlled by 4 or 5 Corporations at this point and countries are more or less gone. The ship that crashed which was a Weyland-Yutani ship (they control the Western hemisphere) crashed in SE Asia (Thailand) which is under control of the Prodigy corporation so the expectation would be that anyone on the ship would be hostile to them. Notice they didnt really seem to give a fuck about the civilians they went right for the ship.

This is the first really interesting thing I've read about the show. Sounds like some solid Alien series worldbuilding here.

I always assumed Weyland-Yutani was a U.S./China axis (or maybe U.S./Japan) and probably controlled most of the world.

is it racist to think the black guy who is one of the new hybrid synths (kid->bot) is the exact same guy as the android black guy on the ship (robot transformer arm)? they look literally the same to me

Disney Plus is a bunch of bullshit. Against my better judgment I decided to plunk down $11 to try and watch this. Usually when you sub to a channel on Roku, it'll immediately let you access that channel and log you in. Disney though has an extra layer of bullshit to deal with, and that extends to Hulu since they own it. Basically I can't get into either one of them because they want me to log in with a "MyDisney account" whatever the hell that is. I've never had a Disney subscription of any sort. So I had to dick around with "forgot password" and whatnot for an account that doesn't have a password because I never had it before, and it used a defunct email so I had to go figure out how to get back on there. The password it wanted was probably my old Hulu password, hell if I know what it is though. I tried using a different email that I can actually get onto easily, and can log in with that, but it wants me to buy the subscription all over again even though I'm on the same device.

Could have avoided all of this by just using my main email to subscribe to Disney on the computer and watch it there, rather than going through the Roku box at all. Not sure why it can't just let me watch the thing I bought instead of having me figure out what the fuck I'm supposed to log in with to access my "Disney account"

Eventually said fuck it, I'm old, I'm tired, it's late, I've been out all day, I don't have the energy for this shit. I'll go watch it on a dodgy streaming site and sit on the phone with Disney for 20 minutes tomorrow to get my $11 back I guess. Which I'm sure they won't be able to do without me going through the same fucking hoops I had to go through tonight.
