My last post on these boards was years ago, but i had to log in to give props to that 5th episode. Holy balls was this good tv / film. The tension and pacing was spot on and that hour flew by so fast. Joinning the club for the eye ball monster, id buy a tshirt. Why cant big budget movie , lookin at you romulus, compete with what i saw.

My only question: how could a nurse/ bio researcher ever capture such dangereous and smart species while being so, so dumb and careless.

5th episode was awesome and easily the high point of the show so far (and given that it's a bit of a standalone prequel, it'll probably remain the best thing the show did).

The first 15 minutes of Episode 1 can be watched right before Episode 5 to get the full story of the Maginot. That plus Ep 5 should have probably been the pilot episode, would have probably pulled people in better.

The zookeeper on the ship was totally retarded though, forgetting to put the top on a containment unit and stuff. Then in Ep 6 we had this retarded child-bot locking himself in with the monsters. Why do they have kids in machine bodies taking care of managing killer monsters?

Anyway the show is kinda retarded but anything pertaining to the Maginot is awesome, and Boy Kavalier is a great villain even if he kinda comes off like people's fever dream version of what Elon Musk is.

I’m on team Alien/Big eye. Every character in the show is retarded or partially retarded and needs to get eaten by one of the space creatures.

The overseers keep saying it over and over again, they are special (needs) kids. Maybe the plan is to sacrifice the lab assistant to prove how dangerous they are and claim further damages without handing them over after six weeks, along with the proof that Yutani sent a team in for the xeno.

Overall I really like the show but some of the writing is cringe at times. If you're going to have a super-genius be one of the main characters you need to have really good writers and they don't pull it off. If they would have nailed the casting and writing for Boy Kavalier I think the show would be much better.

With 2 episodes left, there's about a 90% chance the genius and his island turn into a mushroom cloud soon, so I'd say genius is a relative word there.

With a better writer this could’ve been great.

Something that really bugs me is the outro songs. It’s music I like, but it doesn’t fit the theme of the show, or episode. HBO shows used to do this really well.

The outro songs are meant to sync with the episode theme, I'm guessing.

Spoilers for length

Episode 1 : The Mob Rules

..."Close the city and tell the people
That something's coming to call
Death and darkness are rushing forward"...

Referencing the Maginot crashing into New Siam.

Episode 2 : Stinkfist

"Something has to change, undeniable dilemma
Boredom's not a burden anyone should bear
Constant over-stimulation numbs me
But I would not want you any other way
Just not enough, I need more
Nothing seems to satisfy
I said I don't want it, I just need it
To breathe, to feel, to know I'm alive"

Referencing Boy Kavalier's utter boredom and his obsession with being challenged

Episode 3 : Wherever I May Roam

"And the earth becomes my throne
I adapt to the unknown
Under wandering stars I've grown
By myself, but not alone"

Referencing the Xenomorph and/or the other specimens

Episode 4 : Ocean Size

"Wish I was ocean size
They cannot move you, man
No one tries
No one pulls you
Out from your hole
Like a tooth aching a jawbone"

Referencing perhaps the young xenomorph in captivity and his "exchanges" with Wendy

Episode 5 : Cherub Rock

"Freak out and give in
Doesn't matter what you believe in
Stay cool and be somebody's fool this year
'Cause they know who is righteous, what is bold
So I'm told
Who wants honey
As long as there's some money?
Who wants that honey?"

Referencing the corporate espionage onboard the Maginot and the war between Prodigy and Yutani perhaps. Also the chorus of this song "Let me out, let me out, let me out" might be about the specimens, the T. Ocellus especially.

I agree it sounds "odd" in the setting of Alien stuff, but that's my guess as to why they went with that stylistic choice.

Plus it's all dad rock so targeted to older males along with all the 70s scifi nostalgia in the ship builds and low tech space stuff. I personally enjoy all the music and throwbacks or "member berries" as the internet talking head virgins like to call them.
