His writing feels painfully by the numbers now adays. Sure there’s some bright moments, but Sanderson feels deep in the hair tugging slog atm. And his books have gotten painfully preachy at times. Every main protagonist being a smart super genius woman offset by troubled man… I enjoy the side characters way more than the protagonists and the side characters have gotten boring, stale and less interesting over time.
Im probably going to keep reading, cause I’ve powered through some true slop over the years and I like to spend at least one day a week just reading books at work, so why not, but I just can’t give an honest positive view of the crap Sanderson’s committee is writing atm.
Oathbringer was the first book where the slog of it really hit me.

Im doing the same thing, just finished a reread of WoT and am starting Ssnderson for the first time. Way of Kings and WoR first and amnow halfway through Oathbringer. It does seem a little slow but not too bad. The endings of the first two were so badass that I just figure that's how he does it, but I also dont want to have to wade through 900 pages before badass shit happens. Reading this thread has me worried I'm wasting my time but I also think the WoT complaints were way overblown so I will just keep reading and try to keep an open mind.

Sanderson’s work has some fantastically epic endings. Seriously awesome stuff at the end of each of the books.
Getting there has been the problem in the last couple books. I appreciate how ambitious Sanderson is with his vision of the Cosmere and the story he wants to tell. He builds unique worlds and magic systems that make sense and work. The story is compelling and I’m quite invested in the outcomes for Roshar and the cosmere in general. I’ll keep reading, for sure.
All that said, I really hate the way he’s shoehorning all these social issues into his work. Mental issues, multiple personality disorder, gay/trans shit, etc. Shallan in particular has been hard to stomach the last book or two. Kaladin is wearing on me, too.

Kaladin becoming a mental health healer is a weird place to go with his character, but I have some faith it will be for something cool/important.
The part where he got into the brain of the “defeated one” was good times. Makes sense to hone that type of skill.

I mean the guy writes like 19 books a year. I lose very little sleep not being interested in his magnum opus when there’s an endless supply of interesting and engaging short stories / novellas he seemingly cranks out while taking a dump. Or whatever it is Mormons do. Eventually I’ll get back around to Stormlight, but it’ll be a good long while.

If I remember right some company bought the entire rights to the Cosmere but didn't do anything with them.
This at least sounds like Apple will actually do something with the books.
I just hope they don't screw it up too badly and at least at the rate Sanderson pumps out books, they won't run out of material like Game of Thrones did.

Sanderson was already irritated by Amazon's involvement in Wheel of Time when he signed on as Writer / Consultant. Hopefully he used that experience to leverage Apple for more creative control or input. I say hopefully, but that could also prove to be an issue.

I'm not even sure he sleeps. He did post that the next 5 - 6 months his full-time job is writing this show. Which means he'll probably only put out 4 side novels instead of 8.

Apple TV production values are generally pretty amazing, so I'm hopeful this will at the very least look awesome.
As mentioned let's hope Sanderson leverage good creative control. I saw a clip of him talking about licensing his stuff and how protective he was about doing it.

He posted that he picked Apple because they are going to give him a ton of creative control, and what everyone else already said, they do less projects but spend more time and money on them.
Not sure if the article mentioned this but the idea is movies for Mistborn first and then a series for Stormlight Archive.
