Was looking for a good re-read universe that wouldn't take much time. I should have done this months ago.

And it turns out that graphic novel will be free and online and serialized.

"Yes, you heard me right. We're serialising it, free, atwww.firstlawcomic.com.

The first twelve pages are up there now. You can go look at them. For nothing. And there'll be new pages added every monday, wednesday, and friday, if things go according to plan, for years to come. And you'll be able to look at those too.For nothing. The hope is, that when we've finally completed this project, there'll be well over a thousand pages of high quality First Law graphic novel up online. For nothing."

I know I am late to the thread, but I didn't want to read this until I had finished all of the books in case it was spoiler laden. I absolutely love his universe and writing style. I started with his trilogy and went through chronologically. One of my first "holy shit this is great" moments was when frost and his practicals were sent to arrest the second merchant only to find a bloody mess and his throat slit to the point his head was barely attached. Glokta said "hmmm, what do you suppose happened here", to which Frost responds "poithon?" and they all crack up. Fuck I can't wait for his next trilogy.

He announced his next book, already written during his 6 month break from writing books.

tl;dr: It's not a First Law Book, it's shorter than any of them, it's aimed at a generally younger audience(12-16), and he's writing two more books in the series before he jumps in to the upcoming First Law trilogy

Fuck. I mean, I'll read them and they'll probably be dope....but fuck.

Also, I only just noticed while searching for this thread that Hate had misspelled it as AMbercrombie. Fixed.

Wtf with everyone doing YA? Does it sell better or something? Abercrombie without the grit just doesn't seem appealing somehow.

YA sells crazy well. Of course the audience growth isn't really from young adults (12-18 year olds) so much as 25-44 year old women who like to read about teenagers. Be interesting to see how Abercrombie plays towards that crowd.

And Half a King is out. It's not First Law caliber...but given that it's Abercrombie I'll wait until the trilogy is done and he pulls whatever crazy shit he pulls in the last book before making any final opinions on it.

It's a young adult book and he said that he toned things down a little. Looking forward to the US release.

Enjoyed Half A King... probably the perfect example of great YA in that it doesn't insult the Young Adults in question; there's definitely death and sexuality but they're not for spectacle. It's YA in the way that basically all the novels you were forced to read in high school were all technically YA (except for all that DH Lawrence porn, wtf AP lit).

Finished Half a King last night. It's alright. I didn't realize it was a YA. Decent enough read, but certainly no Bloody Nine.

I enjoyed the characters, but there wasn't anything like the bloody 9.
You mean there was Nothing, like the bloody 9?

Enjoyed the shit out of it. It's a lighter/faster read than his other books but he didn't particularly pull punches for a "YA" book. Swearing and murder galore.

Anyone know if there's more books of the First Law series coming out or when?

Finished the "Half a" series yesterday.

Wasn't the worst thing I read but wasn't great. Definitely has a YA feel to it.

I enjoy his work, but it always comes off just a little bit weak/half-baked, like wigger hardcore namean? Sometimes it's gratuitously cruel just to set it apart rather than driven by the circumstances of the story.
