The amount of people in this thread triggered by a 30 second gay sex scene is hilarious. I'm as racist as they come but I'm shocked people are still weirded out by homos.

For me, since i'm hetro, it was just gross like if I had to watch a clip of two hetro super unattractive people (to me) fucking. I imagine i'd feel the exact same amount of sceevy triggers watching lena dunham banging it out in her 'girls' sex scenes. I just threw up in my mouth a little.

A naked Lena Dunham is a complete turnoff to me but I found her sex scenes in Girls amusing (the ones I saw in the first season anyway). She came off as this meek, totally vanilla chick trying to accommodate a boyfriend with more than a little freak in him. Adam Driver made those scenes but she plays the role of a dead fish very well.

To be fair, if you're watching Queer as Folk, you're probably looking for gay sex scenes.

Considering your self declared proclivity for buttholes and weird sexual shit, I dont know why this would surprise you. Did you think most straight people do things with funnels in buttholes?

No judgement, but can we agree youre not representative of the average straight person when it comes to sex related subjects?

Well the slow boil just got taken off of the burner this week. Essentially a throw away episode (though people wondering how Shadow survived his lynching did get their answer) but the preview for next week looked promising with Crispin Glover finally showing up.

I liked the episode. It added a lot of development for Shadow and Laura and introduced more of the Egyptian stuff. Although given what Laura's fate was going to be originally, wouldn't this experience essentially give her something to believe in and avoid being sent into the nothingness?

I liked it to it just felt like it was a pause to breath when one really isn't needed yet.

And her going before Anubis does raise some questions. Does he judge everyone or just those who either believe in him or in nothing at all? Or did all that time she spent in an Egyptian themed casino impart some small measure of belief that she didn't admit to, even to herself?

I love this show but tonight was "hey, that girl you all hate because she cheating on this super lovable main character multiple times? Here is her doing it? Because?".

I thought the Egyptian stuff was because of the cat.

I really hate Emily Browning's character. I can find no redeeming value about her whatsoever.

This show is really starting to lose me, just like the book did.

Laura's lack of belief meant she didn't really have any connection to the gods. Anubis is the closest she has because she's surrounded by Egyptian themed stuff all day. If you'll recall, he collected the woman last week despite her being Muslim primarily because she was told stories about him by her grandmother. I don't think Anubis can afford to be particularly choosy about who he can collect and takes what he can get. Anubis is also regarded as the "god of lost souls", so it makes sense he'd collect Laura's soul - a suicidal woman who lacks purpose and is bored of everything in life.

He also tells her, "The circumstances of your death commit me."

Pretty sure most of that is intentional. It also adds a second "everyman" to the story for the viewer to relate to. Shadow comes into the show not really believing much in the gods/etc, but he does have some belief (as outlined by the conversation he has with Laura where she laments that when you die, that's it). He may not be 100% sure of what to believe in, but he is driven and holds the possibility to believe. He is more agnostic, she is more atheist.

Laura is counter to Shadow in many ways: She just "passes through" life, as Anubis says. She is alive, but doesn't really find any joy or drive. She thinks she finds it with Shadow, but it only distracts her for a bit and she more or less returns to where she was pre-Shadow. He found his place, but she was still searching. He found his "more", but Laura didn't. It is pretty well encapsulated when Laura complains about his obit being shitty and generic, and being called out on the fact she was shitty so she got a shitty obit.

By Laura getting a second chance, she gets a chance at redemption and a chance to find meaning/purpose that she never got to find in life (which may have the added bonus of avoiding the Anubis Hottub of Darkness). It also gives the character a ton of room to grow and become less of a shitty character, which pays off for the viewer in the end.

Plus now she is a badass undead ;p

I love that the douche Robbie is Dane Cook since he is such a douche.

They have not made a mistake in casting yet.

Audrey is phenomenal. The whole scene with her finding Laura and then talking in the bathroom was excellent.
