Whoever said it earlier - game needs a hell of an expansion. Game is by far one of the more shallow versions. Still interesting from a casual perspective, but ultimately predictable content.

I'm all done!

Wonderful game, though it does feel like they planned out a full reskin of Anno 1800 + DLC, but cut the deeper parts to flesh out Anno 117 DLCs.

Only real complaint I have is the same as Anno 1800: The endgame is so focused on collecting specialists and the game mechanics don't reallllly support it. I'd prefer a system that didn't just use currency + rerolls, but instead used valuable components. I like the way Factorio's Space Exploration mod does it where the highest tier equivalent to specialists are so expensive they arguably not even worth it. The manufacturing tree in Anno 117 is so shallow this isn't really feasible, but I wish they'd find a way to accrue specialists more easily.

Check out this quick montage I made. I wish the game's audio had a Latin option, same wish I had in Assassin's Creed 2 and other games that exist in a non-English world.

Jesus H. Christ!

Thats fucking crazy. Been thinking of starting over now that I'm done with the PoE2 league.

Might wait for the first DLC though.

Prophecies of Ash DLC out today.

Coincidentally I just had my passport appointment this week and am headed to Rome in August. Looking at maybe heading to Pompeii on a day trip, and we're going to Venice to wrap it up for a wedding.

AI summary:

Key Highlights:
  • New Island (Sinis): A giant new island is added to Latium, expanding the map on the upper sides. You can settle here from the start of a new game (0:22-0:51).
  • Obsidian Resource & Volcano: A new finite resource called Obsidian can be mined from existing clay pits or quarries (1:01-1:18). To refresh this resource, the island's volcano must erupt. While the eruption phase is destructive, it offers a long-term productivity buff for all Latium farms, stacking up to 50% after five eruptions (1:25-2:29).
  • New Merchant (Cecilia): Located on the new island, she offers powerful specialists that provide significant fertility boosts to specific resources, purchasable with Obsidian (2:47-3:40).
  • Belief System Updates: The system now includes higher milestones, a new figure named Vulcan (who buffs mining chains), and global bonuses such as a new Coal Mine and population-boosting Smelters (3:41-5:02).
  • New Tech Tree: Players can research abilities like mining Obsidian, creating population-boosting Statues (built with marble and obsidian), and unlocking unique bonuses for public buildings to protect them from earthquakes (5:02-6:21).

pompeii is amazing. A day trip is probably enough but give yourself plenty of time for it. I made the mistake of going there while transiting, so only got to spend a few hours and it wasn't enough. Try to time it for when there's no cruise ships in naples, or nearby ports, so it's not as crowded, but chances are there's going to be big tour groups anyway
