I didn't hate this, it was okay.
Kind of like a David Lynch film without the charm or pretentiousness.
Well made and acted, but it never really comes together in the end and that kind of left me flat.

It was alright. The additional psychology/explanatory part felt kind of out of place with the backrooms, that it somehow is just successively degrading representations of things that have happened somewhere, felt out of place, because that's not really part of backrooms lore as far as I know.

This is on HBO now. I'm glad I didn't watch it in theaters...it was extremely disappointing. I don't need "everything" to be explained, but the ending just wasn't satisfying. It could have been good...the premise was fine, but the script, dialogue, and lack of ending leave it wanting. Seems like some people enjoyed it...all I can say is that it was better than Supergirl.

The movie feels more like an introduction to a series than a fully contained story. Goes more for being creepy, unsettling, and a fear of "wtf kind of entity is out there doing this?". But the fact that you'll be fine if you just don't go into the backrooms makes the stakes pretty much zero.
Good enough if you can catch it streaming, not worth paying extra for.

this movie made me feel old, i absolutely HATED the shaky VCR cam shit. didn't really find it scary or interesting, the first hour was kinda cool to watch in a "i remember the 90s!" way but after that it was pretty boring. ending was a bit of blue balls.
on HBO Max and torrents so watch for free if you are bored but not much here. I enjoyed Obsession a lot more than this.
it is cool i guess kids are really into this, i can see this being a good babys first scary movie and there is i guess a ton of lore, video games, etc to explore after.

For me the scary part of the premise would be being lost in the infinite but that's not a theme of the film at all. I did really like the flashback stuff with the psychiatrist. Overall I liked it more than Hokum and less than Obsession but a year that had multiple competent horror films that were also box office successes is an embarrassment of riches. For at least a little while studios are going to be green lighting projects they might not have if these weren't mega successes. Some of that will be crap but we'll get some winners too.
