I have 50 hours in this and haven’t made it passed act one. I should really get into it and do a complete run and start over.
I have 487 hours and haven't finished it yet. The furthest I got was Rivington. I also need to commit and just finish a run.

I don't think one absurdly over-designed campaign that's capped at lvl 12 is really something to judge that by.

Well it's not true DnD but when can solo it with true negative AC the entire time....you still hear a lot of people that AC is king in BG3. Damage reduction a lot of people ignore it but with items and stuff like heavy armor master you can literally take zero damage if you know what you are doing. Some small number of DR don't seem like they would make a huge difference when it is gigantically huge.

The game definetly spreads out when you get to act 3. The guy at Larian apparently said they had left the ending open ended enough for someone to build onto it for the next whatever. Of course it's not up to him.

If someone is working on the game if you have the ability to disguise self or work on your conversation skills you can go from getting off the ship to level 4 or so with just running around and getting exploration Xp then go back and kill whatever makes it easier if you are on hardcore mode. You get withers after level 3 (or visiting the goblin camp I'm not sure what the trigger is) and taking a long rest if you skip the bandits early on.

Carrying gith out of the creche and throwing them off a cliff one at a time is ennjoyable as long as it is someone you don't need the loot. They drop for a very long time lol. I like that there a lot of different ways you do things.

High enough AC will always be the zero thoughts needed path towards physical invulnerability. You can gain effective invulnerability through a combination of other things like what you mentioned and it's probably safer than just AC since you don't have to worry about that 1 in 400 chance of getting blown up with a crit no matter how high your AC is.

*flashbacks to getting crit for over 350 damage by the boss of the Midnight Isles DLC in WotR*

Armor Class is the single most powerful stat in 5e. All the damage reduction stacking you can pull off in BG3 is Larian's spin because it doesn't exist in the official rules.

5e uses the bounded accuracy system and every +1 has a meaningful impact on a roll. That's especially true for AC. The millions of bonuses that characters had to calculate in D&D 3.x and Pathfinder 1e simply don't exist in 5e.

There are some min/maxed builds that enable characters to have an effective 30+ac very early in the game and those characters are effectively immortal until very high level.

Finding new and inventive ways to die. Jumping from island to island in the astral prism after you kill the inquisitor. Jumped and kinda glaced off and kept falling and faling and falling. It took a long time to actually die. Reading up on it, happened to others at times. New one to me.
