Whatever that may be, I still get hard when Winters nearly goes infantry kill mode on Dike.

That's good TV
Dike was awarded two bronze stars for valor, including one for his actions in Bastogne. The idea that he was some inept coward is a slander invented by Winters and Lipton because they personally disliked the guy.

A lot of officer medals are just participation trophies though. Their bar is many times lower than an enlisted soldier's.

Actual real life evidence of him being twice decorated for valor in combat vs the 40 year old testimony of men who were well known for their dislike of outsiders transcribed into a book by a man well known for making no effort to verify anything he was told which was then further twisted to make dramatic television.

The citation on his second bronze star is for personally removing multiple wounded men from the line while under heavy fire which directly contradicts the idea that he spent all of Bastogne cowering in his foxhole.
