The more I think about kids the more I think we coddle them for way to long, even with how "easy" life is now days. I was watching things like Nightmare on Elm street when I was 7 or 8 and the gore never phased me. This was also the era of finding hustlers in the woods and looking at the titties with your friends after cycling miles from home deep into the woods. Those types of things are probably what makes Gen X as amazing as they are. I would think a lot of meaningful discussions could be had while watching it with a soon to be teen, be it sex, the impact of war and what gives someone exceptional character in the face of such adversity. Way better than letting them watch the pointless drivel on youtube, tictok etc..

Anyone here who grew up in the 80s or 90s probably did. Movie that scared me as a kid was “Before Dawn” or “Dark” I think - it’s about that family of vampires who drive around in a RV. The scene at the diner where they kill everyone freaked me out. I don’t think I ever saw the end of the movie - I had recorded it on the vcr because they only played it late, but the recording stopped during a scene where the vampires were involved in a shootout at a motel

It was Near Dark, and a pretty good fucking movie. Paxton always delivered. R.I.P.
As for scary movies as a kid, the only movie that actually "got me" with a scene was the very last scene of Phantasm. "BOY!" Yea, that fucked me up.

The Phantasm movies always creeped me out as a kid, but then in part 2 you get Reggie's quad shotgun and you're all in to take down The Tall Man. Pretty sure the first time I ever saw that movie was midnight on the local New Orleans TV station that would play a horror movie every Saturday. If you had friends staying the night you'd stay up late to watch, or talk about it when you went to school on Monday.

Those were the days....

The good ol' days. When men were men!
Tbf, my parents let me watch pretty much anything. I was on a healthy dose of South Park and 80s slasher movies in the late 90's at a very young age. I rewatched some of slashers recently and was like, no wonder I was terrified as a youth.

I found a stack of old playboys in the woods taller than me. I think the whole neighborhood was jerking off back there.

When and where did you go?

Benning school for boys in 2002 was a kick in the dick.
Air Force, so it was already Mil-lite. Lackland AFB, San Antonio in 2011. Right after is when the scandal got out that people were getting raped left and right by MTI's so I heard it got even softer.
