I've heard a lot of Disney Channel Original Movies are filmed in Hawaii for the same reason. So the production team could go to Hawaii for free lol.

Letters from Iwo Jima was a much better movie than Flags of our Fathers, although you watch the whole movie kind of nervous because if you know history, there were very few Japanese survivors of that battle.

It does highlight the fact war is hell no matter what side it is

I like Flags of Our Fathers and the book as well but something about the film comes off a little corny. It's off in some way. Iwo Jima doesn't have that problem. At all.

I had a good think about something I hadn't thought about before. Winters gives Compton shit at the beginning for fraternizing with the soldiers that report to him. "never put yourself in a position to take from these men". I thought it was about the men getting feels. But it's far more about Compton getting feels. I realize now how it ties to how Compton broke when Toye and Garnier got their legs blown off.

I'm sure everyone else already thought about this 😜
