Besides Olvia Academy, there should be a bunch of other free stuff or mostly free stuff you can get, multiple blackstars, kharazad neck, tri fallen god, heidel ball codes for hammers and 30k crons, I think you can get a free T10 horse still too. Don't buy anything until you get everything available, then you see what the best upgrade path is. Not sure what your AP is but you'll want enough to do Hexe, then Tungrad. If you're a lot lower than that then maybe Honglim?
All the stuff that comes from dec tuvala seemed pretty expensive to me just at a glance, without actually breaking out all the math on how many crons it'd cost vs just buying a tri or making your own tri (which you could then sell to get tet instead of having to tap tet), or however the accessories end up breaking down too.
Get all 3 so that you can get the Krogdalo Stable treasure item, which allows you to basically have a "portable" stable that all of your characters can access at any time.
Is it 3 t10s to get the krogdalo? I have m+f of doom and pegasus, and sitting on my free t10 box.

Ended up getting a sov awk and taking it to tet, and failing all of my crons/hammers going for tet armor (that I would've probably flipped for silver to get sov sub weapon and whatever else plus replace the tri I have). Something like 306/316/415 now, but down to 1b silver. Almost done with academy, and then doing the fughar post-season quests for caphras will put me at about 7500 of the 20k I need for sub weapon.

If you ended up pitying every single step from PEN to DEC It's like 40bil I think, the same price about as a tri armor. Realistically it's gonna cost maybe 15-20bil I'd guess. With current PEN blackstar prices tanked by Olvia Academy, you could skip it if you don't have a lot of stacks saved up. Not sure on the kharazad neck prices, since dawns are also cheaper atm with the influx from Olvia Academy coins.

You should absolutely not be touching your armor past DUO until you're like 360+ AP and getting into Edania.

Tapping TET Fallen God armor is very similar in price to just buying it... if you go avg or better. It's risky, but the cost is pretty close. I'd still buy it but I have horrible luck and am biased.

That being said, definitely NEVER sell gear you need/use. "Flipping" gear is a colossally stupid idea, since you lose so much in market tax for something you're going to have to eventually buy/enhance back anyways.

Don't worry about going past DUO armors until you're about ready AP-wise for Jordine, just like Uriel Uriel said. The money is better spent pushing AP.

Yes, if you have all 3 T10 horses (Peg, Uni, Doom) you get the Krogdalo Sanctuary but you also get access to the quest that gives you the Krogdalo super horse himself, who is a combination of all 3 T10s. So ultimately you get the Sanctuary to put on an alt or something and your main can have the Super Horse that does everything (flies, runs on water, etc)

After doing a little shakin a movin, i'm at 331/334/418 with all 3 sov weapons at tet. Using a 5piece tungrad still and then pen crescent (tet tung ring/belt/earring). Not really sure where to go from here in the immediate future, probably looks like just save for pen debos I guess, and try to get all my reforge stones (probably before debos i'd imagine). Tried to do Tungrad ruins and hit like a wet noodle cause I only get to about 1150-1170ap with simple cron and a draught going, plus villa/church buff. No idea how to get the other 200+ hidden ap to do the higher end "mid-game" spots of anything past the 1150ish spots like hexe/dehkia hystria and whatnot.

Get a kharazad neck and enhance to sept or oct, tet debo belt and rings (3 piece set bonus), tet disto earrings. You should be able to do tungrad ruins at that point. Then you can push your weapons a bit higher and save for pen debos.

What is your crystal and light stone setup? That's another 100+ AP of potential, depending.

And make sure you're running harmony draughts for all the bonus monster type AP, as well as a perfume buff. Then there's another 8+ AP from alch stone.

Also dont look at the recommended sheet AP listed for a grind zone. Tungrad ruins says it needs 330 I think, but you actually need like 345 to 350 sheet AP to hit the cap with all buffs and a good crystal/lightstone setup.

Using skill master as lightstones in kabuas from before because it was decent without needing the 2 (old cost) 5bil lightstones that were always 1000+ preorders deep.

Crystals i'm generally running with my 2x frozen bitterness, 2x corrupted, 4x ultimate macalod, 2x brutal decimation, 2 glorious ah'khrad, 2 rebellious, a girin tear and a dark red fang.

Haven't upgraded to any of the newer slightly stronger version of crystals yet but that's also a goal.

Edit: Didn't know the tuvala accessories were all 100% chances so I did that quest and using the last 6k crons I had from login rewards/etc managed to get the kharazad neck to sep, failed the one oct tap I had.

4x macalods is generally a waste now, spot depending. Just go for the 2pc. Void precise destruction crystals and void ah'krad will give you a bit more AP. There's also the Kharazad slots that unlock as you get more Kharazad accessories.

Class depending, you usually want to run either vicious shadows or target openings for light stones. All-out attack can be good if you don't need the DR and are under cap. Failing that, run mob specific light stones - demihuman, kama, Edania, etc.

First world problem here: at what point do you just stop enhancing armor? When does the return on investment just stop being worth the crons?
Never?

I don't get what you're asking, really. I mean, I guess you're kinda "softcapped" once you can do Caphras. But it's still worth enhancing at that point because you don't really have any other gear to push.

I have more weapon taps to do and up til now i always did armor taps as I cleared the weekly Edania boss along with wep attempts but the cron requirements are getting to be high and success chances low. This week was the first time that it felt like an either/or decision and not a 'just tap both'. I just kinda stared at the enhancement window wondering if it was worth it.

A softcap is what I was looking for I guess, but my brain didnt form those words. The googleverse didnt result in any recent info regarding a softcap but it does make sense that the Caphras requirements would kinda be it.

What sort of experience would a person whos never played this before and stepping into the game expect to experience? Is this hard to get into at this point?

Black Desert is honestly easier to get into now than it's ever been. The recent release of Olvia Academy added a ton of solid tutorials that walk new players through the game's major systems, plus some genuinely helpful starting rewards. The early experience is much more guided than it used to be.

That said, there are a few important things to understand going in:

- Progress is extremely incremental.
More than almost any other MMO, BDO rewards consistency over speed. I usually compare it to the stock market: time in the game beats rushing. If you're the type of player who wants to blast to endgame as fast as possible, you'll probably get frustrated. If you're okay with slowly building silver, improving gear over time, and letting progress compound, the game is very fair about eventually getting you where you want to be. Catch-up mechanics for new players are better than they've ever been. People who whine about, "I'll never catch up! This game is so grindy!!!!" and quit, come back, quit again will always feel behind players who've been consistently active.

- Pay-to-win does exist, but it's mostly limited if you want it to be.
There are two cash shop items I'd consider close to "must-haves" - the premium tent (remote repairs, buffs, convenience) and the Value Pack, which functions like a subscription and significantly boosts silver earned from market sales. Beyond that, most purchases are convenience rather than power. While the entry cost of the game itself is low, realistically you'll probably want to spend around $50 upfront if you plan to stick with it long-term.

- Combat is the game's best feature.
BDO easily has the best combat system in any MMO, ever. It's the main reason many long-time players still stick around and probably the biggest singular reason I still play all these years later. That said, it's not a low-effort or fully "chill" combat game. It's not a braindead, tab-target, Netflix-on-the-second-monitor kind of thing (unless you're doing lifeskills). "Dad gamers" will not be fans of BDO, generally. Some classes are easier on the hands than others, but even the simpler ones require learning movement, timing, and mechanics. If you're coming from a traditional tab-target MMO, this will feel very different.

Those are the big picture points. If you have specific questions about classes, progression, or what kind of playstyle fits you best, feel free to ask.

I would add that lifeskilling is better than any other games crafting/professions if you like that stuff. I spend more time with that than I do grinding, it really opens up the whole game world and makes it a lot more immersive. For a supposed PvP game though (it used to be, not really anymore), that is by far the least interesting aspect of the game for me, with desync and visibility issues. Archeage and WoW did PvP way better to name 2 off the top of my head.

Just started playing again myself, made a seasonal DK and blasted my way through it. I feel like my old berserker couldn't do any where close (in season) to what the DK is doing in season. I've even solo'd all the OA combat tasks. Had a death doing Turo's and another doing the Gyfins. =D. DK just seems really strong, or my memory is shot, or did they make shit easier?

DK has almost always been strong. She's had a few "down" periods but even at her "worst" she was still solid.

On top of that, she's one of the best bossers (black shrine) and a top tier PvPer.
