Anything else I looked at says it is great, but that's basically social media sources, i.e. worthless. I liked BL1 and BL2, never got BL3 or the other stuff they put out after BL2. I did not expect to give this a second thought, but I guess I am.
I could use some opinions. Performance issues are probably irrelevant (got a new pc for MH Wilds). I wonder if it still plays like BL2, feels like BL2, if the story is good fun or "progressive", that kinda stuff.
my 2 cents: I had zero performance issues (Intel 14900, Gforce 4090, W11 24H2), zero crashes and stuff. Some minor glitches like an arena fight not finishing because some npcs spawned inside solid ground or underneath the world. Everything I could easily resolve myself by leaving/restarting. *Edit: I read that people with capture software like OBS have a terrible time getting it to run stable also AMD frame generation isn't in the best shape for 4k players right now.*
First thing you will notice it is a bit more difficult than the previous titles they want you to feel the weight of the lootshooting idk, they explained it during some talks. You can outgear/outlevel and overcome this but lvl 45+ it will be quite noticeable. Also legos are far more rare as far as my experience went. I had 3 legs - all pistols - during my 10 hours "pure campaign" run (I did two sidequests and there were meh. I heard they vary in quality). The gameplay addition is the grapple + the "glider" and they make some nice zooming around possible but also let them create some annoying jump/grapple environment puzzles. Some where okay, later ones I felt could have been left out.
The first 2/3 of the game was very enjoyable if you like Borderlands/lootshooter and there is a lot to do if you are the "need to collect/do everything" type of player. Worth the box at least.
The last third the game felt they ran out of time is very linear and sterile. Endboss/story outcome was terrible (imho). But who cares about that bethesda style, right?
The 4 classes are hit or miss. Comments are "tame", e.g.playing Rafa you feel they could have made much better jokes/comments but woke and no-offence-attitude prevented it? Idk just feels like. The tuned down the joke density to have a more serious vibe going on, e.g. you loose some NPCs on the way in a melodramatic way and stuff. Claptrap feels strapped on and lame. Endgame is the usual arena+grind specilization points to get better gear to do it all over again. If you liked that loop in BL2/3 you'll find the same in 4.
Not sure about DLCs from what I read so far. Ending was super lame the whole set up was ... well cheap and unorignal.
All in all it's okay but I felt it a bit lacking after 3, really. Maybe too spoiled and after Destiny went downhill there is not much going on in the lootshooter department anyway.
yo rhinohelix
- this seemingly fixed. never had to do anything like this in the past 25 years of gaming. i tried lasso about a year ago with no results, however this post was more specific and led me down additional paths to assimilate other info. anyways, appreciate you taking the time to link that.
Thoughts on the game as I'm nearing the 3rd major boss:
The good:
Gunplay
Gameplay
Fun
Loot
Builds
Some genuine belly laugh moments (shocked by this)
Graphics/looks
The Okay:
Story so far
Some of the humor
Open World (I like it, but there is a LOT of empty space imo)
Music
Runs great for me, but others it seems not so much
The Bad:
The UI is fucking dogshit. Never thought I'd appreciate Destiny 2's UI
No mini map(??)
No super hard mode - hard mode is just not hard enough imo
GPS is a cluster fuck
No ping on map when a legendary drops
No loot filter
Game is quite good imo, enjoying more than 3, story worse than 2 (so far) but moment to moment game/gunplay is better imo. End game not there yet so no comment.
Framegen actually seems pretty good in this too. Using 4x and dont really notice any visual artifacts or latency added. I will say Linux performance compared to Windows is pretty bad and lots of visual artifacts in Linux.
I would not use frame gen in some PvP or comp game, but in this one? Who fucking cares?
I wish Destiy actually had some of this shit like this game has. I know its hard to balance the guns in PvP, but fuck PvP IMO. Destiny NEEDS this type of random drop/mod system. Thats the problem with adding PvP into games. It basically nerfs any fun shit you could have in PvE, which is the majority of the game anyway.

There is a mini map, but its off by default in Gameplay settings at the bottom "toggle radar display". The legendary item ping can be annoying, it IS there, but it seems very finicky on distance.
Only directly bad things I can say other than performance
- UI is bad. It also doesn't "fit"? When you get backspace upgrades and start to fill up the inventory, anything below the first 4 or so lines, when you try to press X to mark it as junk, it won't let you. It marks the item above it. Which can be bad since it since the items you have equipped are randomly placed around in the inventory based on your sorting (which always defaults to manufacturer) and you can select them as junk even if they are equipped.
- Some enemies that jump around can get stuck / fall into the world. I was fighting a boss (inside one of those boss bubbles) that split into a flying and ground enemy. The ground enemy had some moves where it jumped up towards you. By the end I couldn't fight it. It was in the ground somewhere, the marking on the UI showed it off in the distance, but if you leave the bubble the encounter despawns. But had to do it. Adds just kept falling from the sky, but the boss was gone.
- The DPS on some mobs are WILDLY different. Fight one, it does little damage. Then the next one (of exact same type/level) almost oneshots me. Guess it could be crits, but if so, they are like insane damage compared to normal shots.
