PS: Check out Davis Square; it's the only good part of Slummerville but its an awesome happening place.

Except you will be dealing with BC students in Allston/Brighton... If you want to be near intelligent people hang out in Harvard Square or Davis. (Davis does reek a little of hipster sadly)

Kendall Square sadly doesn't really have any good restaurants or bars.

The Harvard Museums are pretty neat.
Freedom trail is boring as fuck TBH. More or a less a Grade school field trip activity.

The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum (Site of the most well know Art Theft in the world!) is neat too.

Boston can be very very cold in the late Fall/Winter. Be ready for freeze your ass gusts to blow through the streets from the Ocean.

Boston is ok. The "south end" is the posh place for badass restaurants and stuff, but expect them to be a bit pricier.

Some of my other favorites:
Sunset Bar and Grill in Brookline - Crowded as fuck, younger crowd(post college workers and college kids), but a beer selection that is asinine(500+) and actually pretty good food considering

Fanuel(spelling?) Hall - Tourist trap but worth walking around for 1-2 hours. It's got some basic chain restaurants on the outer rim and the inner part is like a mall food court but the food is a bit better, some places are down right tasty. Mostly just a cliche Boston Experience

For historical stuff, be sure to check out the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. Beyond some great ancient artifacts, they also have a pretty solid Revolutionary War period collection.

Only thing worth a damn in Fanniel Hall is Herrel's Icecream ;p Best ice cream in the US, IMO (their flagship is in Northampton, MA, but they have a branch in Fanniel Hall as well). Just don't say they fold ingredients like Cold Stone or you'll get cut...Steve Herrell invented that back in the 70s (along with flavors like Heath Bar Crunch) and Cold Stone ripped it off. What was kind of lulzy is Cold Stone actually tried to open a store in Northampton a few years back and no one went there. They closed less than a month after opening heh.

Another good area food is Davis Square in Somerville. It's accessible from the Red Line (only line of the Subway worth shit). Plenty of bars and hipster-fags like Alex. Its a mile or two from where I live so my wife and I visit it often for restaurants. No real recommendation as I've found most places are pretty good. Harvard Square is good also if you want to see a bunch of arrogant pricks and homeless people.

Tanglewood is pretty much the opposite end of Mass from Boston. It's a really popular music venue. I know my parents and sister have gone there a bunch of times for concerts, but idgaf about live music so I've never been and that is deep Western Mass in the Berkshires (I live in what is considered Western Mass and I've only been that far west a couple times). I would find out if they're doing the concert outside or not. If it's outside, you're on the lawn so you'll need to bring beach towels/chairs.

I've never been myself, but there is supposed to be a really good bakery in that area called Berkshire Mountain Bakery. It's not too far from Tanglewood I believe.

For "local" trivia/info, I can only help you a bit further east. You're about an hour from Springfield, which has the basketball hall of fame and the Springfield Armory. They also opened up the MGM Casino last year there. Dinky compared to places like Mohegan Sun or Foxwoods down in CT, but closer drive if you live in Mass. There are also 2 Marijuana shops in Easthampton and Northampton for recreational/medical pot (if you're into that). Northampton has a bunch of restaurants and Herrells Ice Cream is there which is my favorite ice cream place anywhere (Steve Herrell is the guy who started the whole candy mixed into ice cream thing back in the 70s and invented flavors like coffee heathbar crunch. Cold Stone basically ripped off his model. Cold Stone tried to open a store in Northampton like 10 years ago and they closed less than 2 months later no joke lol)
