I do. Oh I do. A summer writing database queries for Powerschool (back when it still had a horrible proprietary backend, before Apple bought it, long before Pearson bought it) made me realize I didn't want to do that kind of shit for the rest of my life.

I think too many people in general, women and men, think of programming as software engineering/application development, when most of it is garbage backend database nonsense.

I went to a security conference the other day. At one panel they were honoring some of the top women in the industry. When the head of security at Johnson and Johnson mentioned that they spent $20 million on software security last year, the gal (sec-chief) from Citigroup just shut up.
