Some threads by original Kickstarter backers. What the fuck has this company been doing for 13 years?

This was released to check a box. Not a cash grab. It was "released" out of necessity to shield itself from legal repercussion.

Mismanagement is only scratching the surface.

Follow this one closely ala Ashes of Creation from the outside, and don't spend any money on it.

Lmao where did it all go? To their fucking coke and hooker hobby. Jfc, people never learn! Just look at Starshit or w/e the fuck that monstrosity is called. 1B+ from fucking morons. No wonder people don't try and make real games. Why would you? Just take people for their money by promising shit that sounds too good to be true!

It doesn't make any sense. This should have been the easiest of all the Kickstarter MMO's to make. They didn't need nearly as many art assets or unique zones since the content was almost exclusively pvp. Just gross mismanagement.

Tough to believe this is the guy who produced WAR and DAOC.

That trailer looks like a 1996 announcement.

That’s craaaaazy.

It’s impressive how lifeless and shitty they’ve managed to make a game look in 2026. Like, we have AI now. WTF are they doing with it?

There’s a junior in high school somewhere that’s putting together a more impressive game.

Funny thing in Game Dev right now, if you use AI in any obvious way there is a portion of the gamer base that will tar and feather you, tank your reviews, and just generally try and ruin your game for not hiring real people.

I suspect it's going to take a few years before you start seeing AI stuff implemented openly into games. You can see this with Steams requirement to disclose where and how AI is used for a game.

"if you use AI in any obvious way"...

IDK what this means. AI can write all of your code for you and expedite your production cycle 10x, which means all of it's usage is in the 1's and 0's and isn't "obvious" at all.

Right, but if you use AI capsule art, or really any art that can be identified as AI, AI voice acting, AI music, etc, you're going to get blowback. This is 100% a thing developers are dealing with right now I assure you. But yea, code is usually considered fair game but code only takes you so far.

Brother. Code only takes you so far? Code is the game.

And yeah, if people are making shitty assets and it’s AI, people are going to be turned off bc they’re shitty. I agree that AI has a negative sentiment, but if it’s well done, a game should be able to overcome it.

I'm actively making a game right now. I assure you code is the foundation, but there are a massive amount of other things that need to exist for it to feel like a game. VFX, SFX, animation, music, system design (how do my fancy coded systems work together coherently), level design, level art, character art, art direction generally, lighting, pacing, tutorialization (how do I ensure player understands what I want them to do?), progression, story, dialogue, UI, balance, etc. Thats just off the top of my head.

All of that is -significantly- more time consuming than coding up working systems. I thought the same thing you are saying until I actually started doing it.
