That is also part of the cascade. Quality has dropped off, while the ability to repair them has become more difficult. You have less and less mechanics able to work on vehicles due to stringent systems being put into place that prevents anybody, other than the companies, from being able to work on them.

Families will no longer be able to afford to purchase, insure, and maintain two vehicles. This of course drastically cuts into sales, which then decreases manufacturing which leads to companies going bankrupt.

The next five years is going to be a ride...
Yeah, after that adventure, I was like "well, time to stop being a pussy and start fixing things myself". It was old, so at least it's possible without the crazy tools/subscriptions. But now it's "Oh, you can't buy that part new, and yours is broken because they all break. You might get another year or two out of a used one, good luck."

Not to mention they're trying to make everything essentially disposable. And the things which need to be repaired, it's whole unit swap outs.

I believe in another thread I ran down how I had an odd noise in my transmission at one point, took it to the dealer. They're only option was to swap out the whole transmission without even knowing what exactly was causing the sound, for the bargain price of just $17k. I called a local transmission shop some friends recommended and they said to just swing by they'd take a look but couldn't imagine anything needing a whole swap. So I told the dealership to button it back up and I'd have to think about it. Funny part being in "diagnosing" it and buttoning it back up, they fixed the noise.

Fast forward around a year and my car was right at 100k on the odometer and still running fine, so I had the transmission shop take a look just in case, and paid them to do my 100k maintenance "spa day" for my car. So Transmission servicing, rear diff servicing, new plugs, tune up, flush the coolant, replace a couple bushings in the suspension and front sway bars which I seem to have abused a bit over the last few years while they were at it, and check the car for anything odd. All done for under $2500.

My rule has become, find a good mechanic and never forget their phone number.

The only one I kind of like would be the 2019 GT Mustang. The problem is I was never a fan of the redesign of 2015. They removed the iconic quad lights and the rear emblem. It did get front wheel drive, so that was something. A white Shelby is mehh. I would not touch a Camaro but the Stingray is okay for a chevy.

Um, no. Maybe you're thinking of the EV? Actual mustangs have always been RWD.

In 2015 they replaced the live axle with an independent rear suspension, so they can actually handle now.

Corvette has the best performance for dollar spent for maybe any full sized sports car currently in production, it's above all of the others in those terms.

People, previously in this thread, have stated that Ford is one of the worst manufactures the last 10 to 15 years(?). It sounds like the Ford C-Suits have raced to the bottom chasing short term profits. They are basically the Dodge/Chrysler of 80s/90s.

If not looking at European, my favorite sports cars are the Vette and Challenger. I haven't looked up manufacturing, but if you are looking for American cars, Toyota/Lexus might have the highest percent of the car made in the US. For example, Chevy's powertrain is all made in Mexico until last year or so, when transmissions were fucking up so bad they moved that particular production to Canada. Currently, 41% of the 2025/26 Corvette is made in Mexico or Canada, with final assembly still in Bowling Green.

I get the impression you know nothing about cars.

Just looking for a toy/track car not a daily. I like American due to the lower cost of replacement parts, upgrades, and labor. Jap bikes, American trucks and cars...

I'd be happy with any of those. Not a fan of the chargers and challengers. Just watching videos they have terrible real world numbers on the track or dragstrip due to weight and suspension/chassis issues. Regularly getting beat by cars with 1/2 the power.

Yar, Challenger is a 100% about looks. Vette is the winner in performance. While the drag times of a bone stock base model might not have a huge difference, the bendy track times are in different leagues. Depending on where you live, there are bendy tracks all over with public track days at most major and some minor tracks (DFW has at least 3); which is worth keeping in mind.

Edit: Surprisingly the 2012 GT500 and 2014 Vette are really close in times on both 1/4 and Nürburgring Nordschleife. So I guess it would come down to looks and if you plan on adding mods. Upgrading the Vette should be a decent chunk cheaper since the GT500 already has a supercharger. Although just adding more power, without upgrading the drivetrain is asking for shit to break.

Watching the for sale forum on Corvette Forum can be a good place to get a handle on Vette prices. Traditionally, price go up in the spring/summer for sports cars and down in the fall/winter (but I haven't been in the market since the Wuhanic Plague fucked everything up).

Edit2: C6 Zo6 LS7 engine has head & rod issues, so removed that part.

The corvette would be the only one I'd look at out of those, but not a 97k mile one. GM reliability is not the best.

There are tons of garage queen corvettes, find one of those.

Low mileage vettes are ridiculously priced. 40k+ for c6 vettes 20 years old. I'd rather get a high mileage later model. It's not like they are expensive to wrench on.

I'd definitely spend $44k rather than $28k to get one with 1/3rd as many miles.

This 2006 Grand Sport should blow all those from that dealer above out of the water for $28k. Has a super and a bunch of upgrades, which means it was probably abused a bit...

I'm not sure I'd trust a car from anybody that can't spell suspension...

Or a sports car with 800whp that has essentially stock suspension (which is probably why he can't spell it, he's not interested in it).

Yeah not interested in anyone else's failed project. I'd only buy used from a dealer with at least a 3 month powertrain warranty. Not looking to get stuck with someone unloading a heap of junk. If they're selling "as is" you're inheriting nothing but problems. Only way I'd go that old is a stock z06 that's in great condition. Really don't want to go older than 10yr.

This might be purely anecdotal... But I had a 2010 Mustang which was just a workhorse for me with essentially no mechanical issues which I got rid of in 2018 (so yeah, only 8 years old) when I got my Caddy.
And Mrs. Haus Mrs. Haus has a 2013 Ford Escape and the only mechanical issues the car has had was 1 fuel pump replacement, and 1 fuel rail pressure sensor replacement. Still going strong (reaching for wood to knock on).
