Wish it used a more 2d art style with just top notch animations and a grittier art style. 3d and the clean/modern art design feels off to me. I'm sure it'll be a good game but SOTN will still remain my GOAT.

Yea not super sold on the art style. Would have given my left nut to see Castlevania go this route with the 2.5d pixel style:

With Motiontwin involved, it was probably always going to end up looking/playing like a reskinned Dead Cells. Not that that's a bad thing really.

The look is fine over all, but to me it does look generic, but I get it.

The action I am still not digging - its way to... action-y while still claiming its an exploration adventure...where you have to octa-platform jump while whip swinging from random glowing spots and enemies while executing pixle perfect roll combos.

It's like putting the CastleVania branding on something that looks and plays similarly, sure the title says Castlevania but nothing about what I am seeing looks or feels like CastleVania.
However, will that matter if the game is good?
I am actually interested in how that aspect plays out.

Yeah, being a CV fan I will get it... but I feel like it is going to be like Metroid Dread was to me... I hope not.

Even IGA's with Bloodstained was forced by "Modern audiences" to make changes lol, not as many as one would expect now days - but he still caved to pressure from external forces that do not matter or play the game or are fans- so I have little hope for Konami that has just been spinning in circles not knoing WTF to do with 90% of their Ips for the past 2 decades

I thought Metroid dread was fairly challenging. I just hated the EMI or whatever they were called. Made me want to be done.

visually it looks like the most underwhelming castlevania that I have seen. Hopefully the gameplay will be good to compensate for that.

Ultimately aesthetic wise it doesnt even look like castlevania to me. If it was somehow artistically similar to the anime series that would of been legit.

Either way I am tired of this cartoonish pseudo 3d art style, it doesnt look at all like castlevania to me.

I did not make it past the EMI part... perhaps if that was done in the latter half of the first 1/3 of the game or middle and ended quickly and was not THE DRIVING FORCE of the main (as presented in the start) narrative... it just /was not Metroid/

Castlevania's visual style is always being muted because of increased visual fidelity - there is nudity all over, harpys, medusas, venus plants and succubi are topless or just nude, wearwolves revert to nude men as they die etc.

It also is very dark even for gothic, again masked by visual fidelity, but even castlevania 2 with dudes hung at the entrances of all the mansions, people, skellys and heads on spikes, parts of bodies and sacraficial alters, tables, women burned on a stake etc. heck legion and the lower dundgeon parts of the castles are always quite disturbing. While many pan it, Lord of Shadows did a darn good job in its visual story telling and it was quite dark- but even then, that was a hard pill for some of the fanbase to take after the more "light" gameboy games - as only if you play them on the big screen will you see the real detail of the sprite work.

If left how presented, it would be nearly on Blasphemous levels - so being more mainstream CV has been pulled back to be more of a "goth girl" gothic style rather than what it really did start as.

Castlevania SOTN is one of my all time favorite games, if not absolute favorite. So, I'm looking forward to this but I'm going to keep my expectations low.

I wish they would bring SOTN to steam, really sucks having to download an emulator anytime I want to replay it.

The Castlevania collections are pretty good even if they're not SoTN. Each one changes the player character formula a bit, but the game layout itself is still very Metroidvania.

They go on sale frequently for dirt cheap, too.

Am I the only one that really doesn't like the visual style? It's kind of yawn-inducing for some reason. Too zoomed-out, character sprite not detailed enough, reminds me of the Dominique DLC in Bloodstained.

Covering some of the century-turn Dracula revivals that don't have games already is a really good idea. As is getting any Belmont action at all, since the Belmont family has been largely forgotten for a long time now in the 2D games. Believe it or not, I think only one of the seven Metroidvanias (Symphony and the 6 GBA/DS ones) actually featured a Belmont as the main dude, Harmony of Dissonance on the GBA. That was in like 2003.

Other century-turns they could cover:

1899 - Quincy Morris fights Dracula (I believe this is the Bram Stoker story?)

1999 - Julius Belmont fights Dracula in a major apocalyptic battle, I think this was spoken of as being the biggest and final battle with Dracula, but somehow it never got an actual game

Would have to go further back than this to find another century-turn that's open. Symphony of the Night is the end-of-1700s one and the original with Simon is the end-of-1600s one. Then Trevor, then this new game which I think is as early as they've gone.

If they want to do 1899 and 1999 next, well, I'm more than down for a new trilogy. It's about 15 years overdue...

thats weird to me, as thats exactly what this looks like.
female protag, weird intro voice over by king of france that makes him sound like the real villian, and animated art style. Looks like its trying to ape on the Anime.

Play this thing if you haven't.

It's almost as good as original sotn

yeah, Dedlit is fantastic.

Two major notes.
1. its really short. painfully so honestly. its so well built... yet short.
2. its meant as a Coda to Record of Lodoss war. vid notes, "depicting the story of Deedlit and the events leading up to Record of Lodoss War: Diadem of the Covenant." it was made to promote the new Novel series being released. if you don't know anything about Record of Lodoss war. you are going to be VERY confused.

It is a GREAT game but yes too short - it is one of the best metroidvanias as of late, I dare say better or on par with Bloodstained.

It would have been fine imo to just make her dealing with her emotional trauma and the long lived elf in love with human who dies trope (heck thats in LoTR) the memory eater demon thing was...eh...I guess fine, the ending and secret endings after you awaken where okay- but now knowing it was just a promo to some books...okay got it lol
