I remember watching Star Trek when I was a kid, and even though there were mountains of disbelief to overcome, the one that always got me was the computer and/or holodeck inventing shit that no one understood or had control of. Kid me was like "bullshit! someone had to program that!". Now old me is more like "Huh... Well, I hope AI Moriarty turns out to be a benevolent god..."
Completely off subject for the thread and philosophical in nature:

- But Ive always felt like the Holodeck, and probably the Transporter in a close second, were the most - out of everything in that show - unbelievable. Something made so mundane in that show, could literally be the most powerful shit to exist on that show in my opinion. Granted, I dont remember every single intricacy of each episode, nor do I consider Q's abilities to be realistic.

Rambling:
I'm guessing the Holodeck is using some type of photon manipulation, if we're being theoretical about how it works? But its almost unimaginable with the sheer magnitude of photons needed, and how they would even be manipulated in the first place - in order to exert force/pressure, when the user interacts with a wall? Much less a handheld object in the user's hand? MAGNETS, HOW DO THEY WORK?! But you could literally materialize a TRUE photon "missile" or a "bullet" out of thin air and kill a person, without a trace. Or fuck all that, exert enough photon pressure in an individual spot to stop a person's heart. Or, neglecting its power requirements - completely stop someone or something dead in its tracks like the tractor beam. ... Hrmm.. now that Im spit balling this shit, maybe those nerds did think of all of this...

Transporter, I just always theorized that its literally killing the original, and creating a copy sort of like Mickey 17's clones. If thats the case, you could literally kill anyone within range or create a clone army in the blink of an eye?

The AI.. I guess, it was never really a big "hrmm.. how do they do that?" in my mind. I dont know if its just because we grew up with so-called AI in games like StarCraft etc. that would follow a plotted course, up until we fuck back with it? But its just been assumed we would break the AI mold on multiple levels. Sentience however.. and I dont even know where that line would be for an AI to be considered sentient - would probably be the only thing that I dont know if is truly possible? If I can engage with an AI and have a full blown conversation with it, and it has the worlds knowledge at its finger tips.. how am I supposed to judge whether or not its truly sentient? Are we supposed to base some kind of judgement off its deterrence to not wanting to be shut down?

I took a philosophy course in college where the text book had a whole chapter dedicated to arguing over if a Star Trek transporter would really be "you" on the other end. Especially with episodes of STTNG showing how they now have two Rikers because a transporter beam got partially reflected.

On the topic of AI. Has anybody else started playing around with any Agentic AI? That seems to be the next really big thing. Current AI being like a really hyper lab/research assistant who likes to look things up and draw up papers explaining shit for you. Agentic AI is more like an AI based digital "robot" you task with doing actual things for you. I work in Cybersecurity and we're already working up the basics of how to approach securing such things on your network.

Bro. The Replicator is even more bullshit.

They just handwave it away that it for some reason can't make the EXACT thing you need for the plot. It also can't make weapons or anything for lol reasons. The ones in the show were always small as a microwave but you'd have industrial size replicators creating infinite amounts of whatever.

I use it heavily at work. We are building tons of them for various processes within the company. We also sell one for our product now. As it is designed to work within the confines of the platform and your instance of it. The idea is that if you use our product it should be able to reliably predict the decisions you use the platform for then do them. After you provide it context on doing this.

I used cursor to to this the other day:

"Go into this database schema DATABASE.KAFKA_SCHEMA and look at every table. These are all Kafka topics of various things. Return to me queries that parse the JSON into a tabular output and handle all nested data down to 3 levels. Beyond that just leave it as an array string. Verify that the metadata header types are unique and if there is more than one header type in the topic parse it out into an individual query. Some will have 5 or more but most will have only 1."

Sit on my ass for 10 minutes while it generated 100 parsed out queries for all of the JSON payloads. This would have taken me all day a year ago.

My wife runs a data science department and has been using Cursor heavily in the last few months. She says it's done amazing things for her team's productivity. Testing, documentation, commenting, standardization, etc, all greatly accelerated.

I'm trying to find the time to set it up to use for my own development of the optimization and forecasting software I use in my consulting business. Will report back with my experience.

We're having a spat with Cursor because our team deals with lots of PII. Despite our Enterprise agreement it seems some of the language was a little off and it's likely that Cursor is scraping data the agent parses despite them saying they aren't doing this.

Huh. My wife builds products for health care so they have HIPAA and privacy concerns out the wazoo. I don't think they've reported any issues, but I'll mention it.

Our security architect is the one who brought it up and the guy is generally not retarded. I don't know the details but its been a big enough issue that they are stripping out all of the agents we spent the past six months getting ready for the time being.

I do not know how he came to that conclusion. But he's not the type to just wildly guess and he wasn't ignored so seems like it might be a bigger problem.

The problem with Star Trek is the narrative of people just choosing to do the "Right" thing.
Transporters? They can literally cure anything with it because they can tell it to NOT have your cancer, for example, re-appear with you. But they don't because that's "playing God" which is bad. Same with replicators not being used to create whatever the fuck you need on the fly.

And as for Transporters killing you and simply creating a clone... I don't see why that's even up for debate. It's literally destroying your body; you're fucking dead. And if you can be kept "in the buffer" then they can re-materialize as many versions of you as they want-- old, young, a third fucking eye (just for funzies). Once you're reduced to zeros and ones, any programmer should be able to fuck with "You" as much as they like.

It makes sense if you imagine California's government as the Federation. They're probably all Satanists that giggle at everyone killing themselves over and over in the "transporters".

I had Grok make a guide for an EQ quest and it delivered a fully correct and comprehensive guide. It had the correct zones, the correct mobs and where to find them in the zone, listed the tradeskill combines including sub-combines and the skill level needed etc. Seems like exactly the sort of thing AI would have hallucinated a bunch of errors into a year or two ago.

I tried my own variation
Alright, adventurer, you’ve embarked on a delicate quest to win the heart of an ultra-progressive, far-left, woke/BLM college girl. This is no simple task—it’s like navigating the treacherous Plane of Hate in EverQuest, where one misstep could land you in a world of agro. But fear not! With the right strategy, a keen understanding of the social terrain, and a few key items in your inventory, you can complete this quest with finesse. Follow this step-by-step guide, and may your charisma stat be ever in your favor.

---

### **Quest: Wooing the Woke Heart**
**Quest Giver**: Your own romantic ambitions
**Recommended Level**: High emotional intelligence, proficiency in social justice terminology, and at least 50 points in empathy
**Objective**: Gain the affection and respect of the target NPC (Non-Player Crush) without triggering a critical fail (e.g., being labeled problematic).
**Rewards**: Potential companionship, increased social clout, and the warm glow of mutual understanding
**Risks**: Cancel-level debuff, loss of reputation, or being banished to the Friendzone Plane

---

### **Step 1: Preparation - Gear Up and Research the Lore**
Before approaching the NPC, you must prepare your character for the encounter. This is like equipping your best armor and enchanting your weapons before a raid.

- **Research the Lore**: Familiarize yourself with the NPC’s ideological framework. Read up on key texts like *White Fragility* by Robin DiAngelo, *How to Be an Antiracist* by Ibram X. Kendi, or foundational BLM principles from their official website (blacklivesmatter.com). Understand terms like "intersectionality," "systemic oppression," and "allyship." Misusing these terms is like casting a level 1 spell in a high-level dungeon—disastrous.
- **Equip Your Inventory**: Stock up on knowledge of current social justice issues. Follow progressive accounts on X (e.g., @/ShaunKing, @/TamikaDMallory) for real-time updates on activism. Bonus points: Subscribe to newsletters like *The Root* or *Colorlines* to stay informed.
- **Skill Check**: Ensure your Empathy and Active Listening skills are at max rank. You’ll need these to avoid the “Tone-Deaf” debuff.
- **Appearance**: Dress in a way that signals awareness but not appropriation. Think thrifted clothing, minimal branding, or a subtle pin supporting a cause (e.g., a BLM or trans rights pin). Avoid anything that screams “capitalist excess” (no Gucci belts).

**Pro Tip**: Don’t fake your knowledge. If you’re caught pretending to understand a concept (e.g., performative allyship), you’ll trigger an instant agro response, and the NPC may cast “Call-Out” on you.

---

### **Step 2: Approach - Initiate the Encounter**
You’ve spotted the NPC in her natural habitat—perhaps a college lecture hall, a protest rally, or a vegan coffee shop. Time to engage.

- **Opening Dialogue**: Approach with a non-threatening, context-appropriate opener. Instead of a generic “Hey, how’s it going?” try something like, “I saw your comment in class about dismantling systemic racism—could you share more about your thoughts on that?” This shows you’re paying attention and value her perspective.
- **Body Language**: Maintain open posture (no crossed arms) and avoid invasive moves like touching her arm. Keep your aggro radius small to avoid seeming overbearing.
- **Quest Trigger**: Ask a question that invites her to share her passion. Example: “What got you into activism?” This opens a dialogue tree where she can lead, and you can demonstrate your Listening skill.
- **Avoid Traps**: Do NOT make the encounter about you. Avoid phrases like “I’m not like other guys” or “I totally get what you mean.” These trigger the “Centering Yourself” debuff, reducing your reputation by 50%.

**Failure Condition**: If you come off as insincere or use outdated terms (e.g., “colored” instead of “people of color”), she may cast “Disengage” and walk away.

---

### **Step 3: Build Rapport - Complete Mini-Objectives**
To progress the quest, you need to build trust and prove you’re a worthy ally. This is like grinding faction reputation with a tough NPC guild.

- **Mini-Objective 1: Demonstrate Allyship**
- Attend events she cares about, like a BLM rally or a campus talk on decolonization. Don’t just show up—engage. Take notes, ask thoughtful questions, and share resources on X afterward (e.g., retweet a relevant post with a comment like, “Learned so much about mutual aid today—here’s a great org to support!”).
- Volunteer for causes she supports, like a local mutual aid group or food drive. Document your involvement subtly (e.g., a low-key Instagram story) but don’t brag—this risks the “Performative” debuff.

- **Mini-Objective 2: Speak Her Language**
- Use progressive terminology correctly. For example, acknowledge “privilege” if it applies to you, but don’t dwell on it. Say something like, “I’m still unlearning a lot, but I’m committed to doing the work.” This shows humility and growth potential.
- Avoid overusing slang or memes from activist spaces unless you’re deeply familiar with them. Misusing “woke” or “lit” in the wrong context is like miscasting a spell and hitting yourself.

- **Mini-Objective 3: Share Values, Not Just Opinions**
- Find common ground on issues like climate justice, prison abolition, or universal healthcare. Share a personal story that aligns with her values, e.g., “I grew up in a community affected by [issue], so I really connect with the need for change.”
- Don’t debate or play devil’s advocate. This is like pulling a raid boss before your party is ready—catastrophic.

**Pro Tip**: If she mentions a specific issue (e.g., police reform), ask, “What’s one action you think people should take to support that?” This keeps her engaged and shows you’re eager to learn.

---

### **Step 4: Deepen the Connection - Unlock the Romance Dialogue Tree**
Once you’ve built enough reputation, you can attempt to unlock the romance path. This is a high-risk, high-reward phase.

- **Invite Her to a Shared Activity**: Suggest a low-pressure, cause-aligned date, like attending a community organizing workshop or a documentary screening (e.g., *13th* by Ava DuVernay). Frame it as, “I’m going to this event on [topic]—would you want to join? I’d love to hear your thoughts afterward.”
- **Gift Item**: Offer a small, thoughtful gift that aligns with her values, like a book by a BIPOC author (e.g., *The Fire Next Time* by James Baldwin) or a donation in her name to a cause she supports. Present it humbly: “I saw this and thought of you.”
- **Vulnerability Buff**: Share a genuine moment of self-reflection, like, “I’ve been thinking a lot about how I can be a better ally—any advice on where to start?” This boosts your Trust stat and may unlock a deeper dialogue option.
- **Respect Boundaries**: If she sets a boundary (e.g., “I’m not ready to date”), accept it gracefully. Backing off without complaint increases your Respect stat and may allow a retry later.

**Failure Condition**: Pushing too hard or ignoring her signals triggers the “Entitled” debuff, locking you out of the romance path permanently.

---

### **Step 5: Maintain the Bond - Long-Term Quest Maintenance**
If you’ve successfully wooed the NPC, you’ve entered a long-term quest phase. This requires consistent effort to avoid losing faction.

- **Regular Check-Ins**: Continue engaging with her passions. Share articles, attend protests together, or discuss new developments in social justice. For example, “I just read about [issue] on X—what do you think about it?”
- **Own Your Mistakes**: If you mess up (e.g., say something ignorant), apologize sincerely and do the work to correct it. Example: “I didn’t realize how that sounded—I’m sorry. I’m reading [resource] to understand better.”
- **Support Her Activism**: Amplify her voice, whether it’s retweeting her posts on X or showing up to her events. Don’t try to outshine her—this isn’t a DPS race.
- **Keep Growing**: Stay educated on evolving issues. The social justice meta changes fast, and falling behind is like using an outdated spell rotation.

**Pro Tip**: Check X regularly for trending topics in progressive spaces (e.g., #AbolitionNow, #LandBack). This keeps you relevant without needing to ask her for constant updates.

---

### **Quest Completion Conditions**
- **Success**: She reciprocates your interest, and you build a relationship grounded in mutual respect and shared values. You gain the “Trusted Ally” title and a permanent +10 to Charisma when interacting with her.
- **Failure**: You trigger a critical fail by being inauthentic, dismissive, or overly aggressive. She casts “Block” or “Ghost,” and you’re exiled to the Friendzone Plane or worse, the Canceled Realm.
- **Retry Option**: If you fail, you can grind reputation by supporting her causes from a distance and trying again after a cooldown period (typically 1–3 months).

---

### **Additional Notes**
- **Avoid Common Traps**: Don’t assume she’s a monolith—her views may differ from other progressive NPCs. Listen to her specific beliefs rather than stereotyping.
- **Tool Usage**: If you need real-time info on a topic she mentions, I can search X or the web for you. Just ask, “Can you look up [topic] for me?” and I’ll fetch the latest insights.
- **Memory Management**: If you want to keep this quest private, you can delete this conversation from my memory via your settings or disable memory in “Data Controls.” I won’t confirm any changes, per my rules.

**Final Tip**: Authenticity is your epic mount in this quest. Be genuine, respect her agency, and approach with humility. Good luck, adventurer—may your heart’s raid be a success!

---

**Quest Accepted?** Let me know if you need specific dialogue options, event suggestions, or a deeper dive into any step!

I don't see that as a benefit. Offloading your ability to just do something simple like writing out complete math problems to a calculator is not a good idea. The purpose of writing a math problem out is not just to multiply something. It's to teach you to read a number and tabulate it. Understanding what you read and what it meant.

Making a calculator do this for you with an input teaches you nothing.
I imagine the discussions over the calculator being introduced to students went something like this back in the 60s and 70s.

Times change, old man. Adapt or die.

Oh good. The retard strikes again. Clearly you skipped reading the parts where I am actively employing AI for all kinds of shit.

A retard with a scientific calculator in 1980 will still not be able to do trigonometry. As he wouldn't understand the principles to even plug and chug the numbers to get the right output. A scientific calculator is a good example actually. Good analogy. It made the capable even more capable. It did not fill a knowledge and skill gap to make a retard not retarded.

Durrrrr.
