Choosing between an exercise bike and elliptical for a small Portland apartment

I live in a second-floor apartment in Portland and want to add some cardio equipment for the rainy months when I can't get outside. Space is tight, maybe a 4x6 foot corner near a window, and I'm worried about noise carrying to the neighbors below since the floors are older wood. I've been looking at both exercise bikes and elliptical trainers, but the ellipticals seem to take up much more room and I'm not sure how stable they feel on a second floor without a mat. Budget is around $800 and I'd rather buy once than replace something cheap in a year. My main uncertainty is whether an elliptical is worth the extra footprint for lower-impact workouts, or if a decent bike covers enough. Anyone here dealt with upstairs apartment noise or tight spaces with home cardio gear? Curious what actually worked for you.

Checked out that roundup of Best Exercise Bike & Elliptical Trainers of 2026 since space is my main worry here. Still unsure whether a mat really cuts the noise enough for the neighbors below, so I'm leaning bike for now but not settled.
