And I’m only like 2-3 hours into the game.

There was some mob in the first maybe 30 minutes when you land that the Chinese looking chick says “oh he looks dangerous” that I gave entirely too many attempts to before just saying fuck it and dodging his shit because it was one hit death and I had no res nor could figure out how to res.

maybe I understand now why my 60 year old friend who played wow with us now just plays fucking Civ all the time.
2hr was basically just a movie intro, lulz, but sound is very important so you can hear and "feel" the parry

plus the soundtrack is the best ost in 20years so you should be listening anyway

Just finished, good story, but FF14 Shadowbringers is still my favorite story

Just finished Verso's ending and I just keep thinking about
holodeck.jpg

Don't see how anyone can see Maelle's ending as anything but bad. A rich family can't deal with loss so they shut themselves away in some fantasy world. But I'm a pretty shallow guy, so maybe I don't understand some deep message M's ending is trying to convey

The first two "hard" bosses are the secret mime, and the floating island mime(in that first zone, I don't mean the actual overworld floating islands.). hes probably talking about the floating island mime. I do think they call out, "oh hard boss" for the island mime.

Maelle's ending can be good if you think the world can exist independently to the painters actively being involved. Maelle will lose herself in the painting, till her real body dies. I do wonder if the painted self would remain.. but then the world itself would continue existing in secret. only Clea knowing its location.

real life is just too horrible for maelle, look again at verseos ending, her family still hates her and all she has to comfort herself is verseos esquie doll (she keeps esquie for herself, she doesn't put him on the grave like flowers)
also everyone is keeping their distance and theres this "void" that only verseo can fill

verseo fits right there, they all know it and maelle especially feels it. her family is still saying this is your fault

especially at the end scene too

the painted world is saying goodbye to her, but gustave is the real g, and knows her better and instead of waving goodbye like everyone else, he waves come here, and her painted self is waiting.

sounds like a family that needs to get over their grief together. no matter how shitty your irl situation is, I don't think living in a fantasy world is the solution. My first reaction to "canvas" was drugs, but in the game's context I see it more like the holodeck. People thinking the NPCs have a right to exist are going to start up crap like "AI rights are human rights" protests in LA 50years from now, lol

We're never given a definitive answer on if the painted are actually alive or not. People keep comparing it to AI, but this is a make believe magical world so none of that shit really applies and the game purposely makes it ambiguous.

I'll still think Verso's the "best" ending

While I agree if you could live in a world you control and be happy be hard not to pick that. Just good writing either way. Pretty sure there is a time dilation going on as well. Years in the painting may only be hours or days.

They're explaining you can't stay too long in a painting, it drives your mind mad. I believe it's about time dilation, like you feel and experience too much in the paintings and it's just about a fraction of time in real life, like it's just "too much" for the mind. Clea going on a war against the "Writers' briefly explained "painting" is '"too much" to handle, like when you just can create anything in a painting, and live in it, you'd just hit the "God Complex" where you are any people's fate. You're a living God walking amongst "humans", what is there to be?

Maelle / Alicia's ending clearly implies she's getting "corrupted" the same way her mother did. She seems happy and at the same time she doesn't seem to be. I a world where you do control anything, is "life" still going? Or is it just a painting where nothing could ever happen?

On reflection - screw both the opposing views for the ending, the real hero here is Esquie, and they would both be better off if he slapped some sense into them

Yes that is the downside but easier than being burned and can’t talk I guess. People were clearly living their lives, it was under the gormage so that sucks but people seemed to have free will. Create the world, live in it, can probably tweak it from the inside but not create new worlds etc. hence the murdering and not just erasing problems.
