The intro is slow. Lots of walking and exposition, first hour or so is pretty void of action.

I’m working through the side stuff on act 3 now, biggest complaint I have is the platforming portions of the game. It’s complete AIDS

I think I'm supposed to like this game and I couldn't even get past the intro.
the intro is the worst part, hopping around the roof for a 5minutes (which does nothing for you) ending w/ a fight that is poorly explained and then running thru the townsq towards the docks and all youre supposed to do is pick up context

now again, the nappy head dies really quick, so no one has to worry about dei gaming, it's really just white ppl and 1 asian chick that makes ppl question if they have a foot fetish

Na, I meant the part after the prologue.

I'll admit that I almost checked out of the game early on too. I was pretty sure it was going to suck with all the goddamn exposition at the beginning. It wasn't until a certain somebody's death that the game really started to click with me.

Intro is kinda slow and way too French. Once you actually get to the island and start the expedition it picks up and only gets better as it goes along.

Doesn’t get less French though.

Just finished all of the act 3 side stuff and both endings, overall probably a 9.9/10. Great story, fun combat (for the most part), great music, great voice acting.

Main problem for me is that act 3 became kind of a one shot everything or get one shot. Painted Power opened up the game in a good way, but at the same time I don’t think the encounters were tuned right. Combat was definitely more fun earlier on. Also, pictos ability management became kind of a chore as well

honestly though, if you had told me 5 years ago that the arguably best game of 2025 would be a French JRPG i'd call the cops on you

The important thing for me about the ending(s) is that Alicia was a fucking crack head. she kept chasing her fix and got her house burned down partially, brother killed, her body fucked up. leaving her any chance to extend things...i couldn't conceive of it being a good idea.

I agree with Verso's ending being the best, but not sure what you're talking about with Alicia "getting her fix" that led to her house being burned down. All we know is "The writers" somehow did it and were able to because of Alicia's "naivety". I only see Aline as the "villain". Abandons her family and then forces Renoir to destroy the last bit of his son's soul because she can't moderate herself. They could all survive and be happy if she could just take breaks to not kill herself

Basically because she was obsessed with the books. 'the writers' seem to be of equal power to the painters. she was pursuing something that wasn't within her family's domain. something illicit. she had to get it from the enemies of her family. I call her a crack head because she was chasing after whatever was in those magic books... lost in interesting stories or whatever. she took something from them that was brought into her house which was otherwise protected (by magic i presume). This lead to the fire. her sister wasn't mean to her because she was a bitch, she was impatient with her crackhead sister who got her brother killed.

What? Pretty sure you made all that up, because it's nowhere in the game. All we know is from these lines from Clea:

"The Writers used you against us once before, they won’t hesitate to use you again"
"Lest you forget, the only reason those two are in there is because your naivety cost Verso his life"

Nothing about getting something "illicit" or "magic books"

dunno where i got the impression, but its the firm impression i got. alicia wasn't to be trusted. she coveted the books. her sister thought she didn't have the willpower to resist them again. you can't give a crackhead like that control of when she stops because she won't. she'll die in that painting, which was the maelle ending.

100% agree she's not leaving the painting. I think it's more that she's lived an entire life thinking of that as her only reality, combined with the guilt of Verso dying, her permanent disfigurement, and her evil bitch mom hating her. Don't see it as a junky getting a fix as much as she has a real shitty life waiting for her outside. Still not "right", but she has a much more valid reason to die in there than her mother

I wonder if they’ll do a sequel or jump into all the shit in the spoilers above. I’d be just fine if they moved on and left it self contained.

I would be OK with them just moving on to a different Story, though I would hope whatever they make had the same combat style. Getting that same mix of music / writing / VA could be very difficult.
