Ah was about to say that's how the first one is but yeah you were talking about that one, yeah that's just the kind of game it is, it's a lot closer to action jrpgs like Tales than Souls, although the combat has some similarities with Souls. I got bored pretty quick in the first one and shelved it though, maybe I'll revisit it at some point but the story was a snoozefest of overused anime tropes and the combat wasn't that fun imo. Second one looks more of the same so I'll probably skip.
