The bigger the playoffs are, the better the chance that a non-traditional power can win a national championship. During the entire BCS championship game era(1998-2013), not a single team won a national title that didn't already have one previously in their history. The last team to win their first national title was Florida in 1996, almost 20 years ago now. Any time that any kind of voting or human decision comes into play, teams with the "big name" will always have a decided advantage before a minute of football is even played.
As a fan of a team that is nowhere close to being a traditional power, I like the playoffs, and let's get up to 8 teams ASAP...
