CFB is dead. The school fealty and rivalry aspect was the only thing that made it an appealing alternative to the pros. It is all downhill to a feeder league of less talented and/or experienced players at this point. Why do I want to watch that shit when the NFL exists? I'd rather watch the better league if they are all just paid mercenaries.

It's a fair criticism; the rivalry aspect is still there, but there is too much player movement. I believe the bill allows for one open transfer, any others would be due to head coaching changes. The current degree in which a staff needs to even run interference to retain their own players is overwhelming, hence the new reality of college programs having full-blown front offices. If nothing happens coaching burnout is going to cause coaches to burnout faster than ever - which will perpetuate the constant movement of players even more.

I'll watch, but every year since this bullshit started my interest has waned. I used to watch a shitload of games, but it has greatly decreased. Last season I watched the OU games, a handful of big SEC games, and most, but not all, of the playoff. I imagine that it will decrease to just OU and the bigger playoff games this year, but if the oversight continues to deteriorate I could see it going lower.

It has been tough to keep track of rosters in Football, Basketball, Baseball, and Softball over the last 3 years. The portal is fine, but unlimited transfers and immediate eligibility are just awful for the game.

A slight redirection: Sorsby would've presumably been a clear favorite for a potential Heisman run; I think the chances on that are about .01%.

Texas would kick Arch off the team if that happened, and I would be extremely disappointed if they didn’t. UT does not fuck around with this stuff. Really, only one school has been so ethically bankrupt as to play a player caught gambling on football, Tech.

Tech only supplies money to itself, it does not enrich others in any material respect. Kaines is right, they were likely going to be left out of the eventual super conference regardless. They don’t bring anything to the table. They are not a national draw, and Texas already delivers the entire state by itself for TV rights.

Let Campbell know that all his money can’t buy blue blood status. Tech will always be irrelevant regardless of how much money he burns. They are a more pathetic A&M.

Tech doesn't seem to understand that they are accelerating the destruction of the meaning of blue blood status. They are desperately spending money to join a club while actively chucking dynamite onto the dance floor.

GOOD. Ever since college football went to a money-first, geography doesn't matter, players are defacto contracted employees, the current version of college football needed to die. And if that means a violent death, so be it.

I just don't know if it ever will recover if it dies to such a loyalty-killing reason. You could bring fans back from the transfer portal wild-west and pay-for-play shenanigans if you reined it in under collective bargaining and everyone feels like it is generally fair-ish again. If gambling shit is allowed to fester for any real length of time then it might just be dead for good.

If the Unlimited NIL-on-the-side continues then it is a lost cause. The courts have already ruled that the NCAA cannot limit 3rd party NIL payments, and their clearing house cannot deny deals since those get litigated as well. So collective bargaining would have to somehow limit NIL, which is where all the grey area lies.

I truly believe any program that considers themselves a blue blood would do that. Every OU fan will tell you "the program is bigger than 1 guy" when something like this happens or when we lose a player to some other team. It has been ingrained into us as a collective.
