Thanks fellas. I want to try the bleu de Chanel or Dior savauge. Do I want the EDP or EDT? Is EDP too intense for a beginner? Also I don’t think I saw your opinions on savauge?

Ah I thought EDPs projected more. I want something more subtle that lasts long to start I think.. Sounds like EdP is the way to go then?

Both the EDP and the EDT will probably work fine for you. Sleevedraw is correct about the differences between EDT and EDP, my advice is to try them both at the store and see which one you like more in terms of intensity and scent, and go with the one you enjoy the most. I say it that way because even though they share many similarities, they have slight differences in the accords and the notes, see here:

EDT: (NOTE: the EDT doesn't say Eau de Toilette on the bottle, but the EDP says Eau de Parfum on the bottle)

EDP:

---------------------------

I would advise against the *Parfum* concentration, which is heavier (more intense) than the EDP and doesn't project for shit in my experience. ...and it was an irritant whenever I sprayed it.

Looks like this: https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Chanel/Bleu-de-Chanel-Parfum-49912.html (NOTICE: now the text is in gold on the bottle for the Parfum concentration.)

I actually traded my bottle to a friend of mine for YSL EDP.

Speaking of YSL, a friend mentioned it to me but not an exact cologne from them. Which cologne of theirs do you have/like?

Also no love for Dior savauge?

I have the Y EDP, looks like this one: https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Yves-Saint-Laurent/Y-Eau-de-Parfum-50757.html

It's an all rounder, what they consider a 'blue' or 'bleu' fragrance, about as middle of the road as it gets, but it's an easy dumb reach fragrance.

As for Dior's Sauvage, I actually never owned it, totally srs. I don't think I've ever even smelled it. I know, crazy right?

Where do you guys recommend actually making your purchase? Also do your colognes last you a while?

Personally I like to buy from the store if I have time to hit the mall, or the store's website, so Macy's, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, or wherever, Sephora.

There are discounter sites where you can get fragrances for cheaper than in stores. I like to buy from the store direct because I want to feel 100% assured I'm buying the real deal. That's just a quirk on my part, it's not to say that discounters are selling fake stuff, but I have read experiences from discounters about getting older stock and issues with the scents possibly due to storage conditions. A lot of people use discounter sites, but I can't speak about the experience personally. You can definitely save a lot of money.

------------------------------------------------

Depends on the cologne - what I mean by that is, if you have a 'signature scent' cologne, or a 'daily driver' cologne and you wear it often, you're probably better off buying the largest available size which is usually 100ml or maybe sometimes 150ml for designer fragrances, I.E. Chanel, YSL, Dior, etc.

If you're talking about colognes that are considered by some to be more 'special occasion' formal scents, or seasonal only scents, (I.E. MFK Grand Soir) then yeah they can last you a long, long while. In my case, I spray my Grand Soir whenever, I don't hold off using bourgeoisie fragrances for daily wear. Gallagher's Wicked Good 50ml will probably last me 2-3 years+ because it's a cold weather scent. Day Three's BANI, same thing, but summer scent. ...whereas I burned through my 50ml of Chanel Allure Homme Sport because it's a year rounder and will have to get a new bottle soon, will get the bigger bottle next time.

Another couple factors to consider is how much you like to spray and how strong the scent is. For instance, some people only like to spray twice for a certain fragrance, where as some like to spray four times. If you only need to spray twice and the scent lasts all day for you, then you will get more mileage out of your bottle.

I use the discount sites mostly. I don’t use cologne daily so I can’t justify dropping $500 on a bottle. A small bottle for $50 lasts me awhile.

Yeah 500 is nuts, some of the larger bottles of niche fragrances can run that high and Tom Ford stuff is also super overpriced. Same with a lot of MFK stuff.

Mine last like 10+ years. I use cheap shit daily for work, the nice stuff when I'm going out and Axe from the clearance bin if I'm going out with the wife.

Been thinking about this for a few months. I've always had a bottle of Aqua Di Gio, Nautica Sport, or something similar around but have wanted to expand my horizons. Gonna try a couple of these suggestions.

Got a vial of Polo Red Parfum in a sampler pack. Really nice if you like citrus.

Not familiar with it, but just looked it up on Fragrantica, looks like it performs well in the cold temps, safe reach cologne.

When I read citrus I immediately thought it was for warmer weather. A citrus for the cold, interesting.

Nordstrom's has a bunch of shit 10-15% off even on designer stuff, including Chanel, which almost never goes on sale. Just got a 100ML of Allure Homme, too bad Allure Homme Sport wasn't on sale or I'd have picked up a 100ML of that too.

I normally only use aftershave "at times" that goes with my shaving lotion. Not sure what I will do now the company went out of business, Central Texas Soaps. Mr pepper which smells like Dr. Pepper and Cowboy spice which my last two girlfriends like a lot but does not smell like a cowboy.

It's really good but like basically all RL frags, it has absolutely no longevity. We're talking 3-4 hours for a parfum on my skin, maybe 5-6 on clothes. As long as you are comfortable with that going in, it's super nice.

Noble Otter has one called Lonestar which is "Texas-themed", i.e. magnolia, sage, leather, hay. They make aftershave, too.

Bumping this with some fragrances I recently sampled. Always sample before going in on a full bottle purchase.

Louis Vuitton Pacific Chill - smells incredible, longevity was great for me, if you spritz some on your shirt it will also last for a couple days. That was my experience.

Louis Vuitton Ombre Nomad - smells like shit, not safe for blind buy, if you want to smell like this, just don't shower for 3 weeks.

Guerlain L'Homme Ideal EDT - absolute banger, you can grab this one on discounter sites, 10/10.

Guerlain Tobacco Honey - 10/10 if you're into this profile, worth every penny. They've recently offered a full bottle in 50ml.

Terre D'Hermes - 10/10 summer scent if you're into this profile, definitely sample this one first, but it's super pleasant for me. Masculine.

Creed Aventus - might have been great back in the day, maybe I got a sample from a bad batch, but has a faint scent for all of 5 seconds and then smells like nothing other than diet-piss.

Armaf Club de Nuit Intense for Man - Creed clone, didn't know it was a clone when I ordered the sample, I don't buy clones, but sampled it since I got it anyway, doesn't perform...maybe if you're sweaty and in the heat, but better than actual Aventus.

Caroline Herrera Mystery Tobacco - Incredible scent, extremely pleasant. Unfortunately CH doesn't offer anything small than a 100ml and it's pricey. If you're into tobacco scents, it's worth the cash if you've got it.

Parfums de Marly Althair - One of the best gourmands ever made, ever. Worth the hefty price. Unisex scent, but doesn't lean feminine for a gourmand.

Bentley for Men Intense - Hyper masculine scent, it's a 10/10 masterpiece. It goes above and beyond the hype.
