The teaser trailer for this movie was great, just enough info to make the movie seem interesting and that's it. Could have done without showing two of the kills, but ultimately most people probably wouldn't remember that stuff by the time it released anyway. Even the plot description was super vague back then too.

... and then some gigantic faggot over at New Line took charge and decided the only way to sell a horror/thriller movie is to spoil the entire setup. Not just trailer spoilers either, because some people don't watch new trailers once they've already decided to see something -- oh no, we need full-on spoilers in all the plot descriptions and even on the fucking posters, just to be sure.

Not sure why it bothers me so much, since the actual reveal happens like 20 minutes in and the movie itself is majorly let down by a weak final confrontation between Iris and Josh that was way too concerned about hitting the viewer over the head with allegory instead of having a cool action sequence, but still... I guess it was just another unneeded reminder that you can never hate Hollywood people enough.
I just watched this over the weekend, and the very first thing I thought as the movie was progressing was, "Am I not supposed to know this is a sexbot? Because they are playing it like it is a secret in the movie, but the trailers all spilled the beans long ago."

I'm not saying it would have been an amazing movie by any means if they kept it a secret, but you can see how it would have been a lot more subtle and surprising if you had no idea. They did a decent job of making all the stuff seem natural, go to sleep, wake up, can't lie, etc. But when you know already, who cares? I bet the director is secretly pretty pissed about how they ruined it. But I don't really care enough to look either.

5/10 movie, not horrible, I don't hate that I watched it. Chick was pretty good, to be honest, although I'm not sure I've ever seen someone with whiter skin before that wasn't an albino.

Eh, I think viewers pretty much already knew she was a bot. The twist was the other characters.

This was fine. Solid 7/10.

I thought it was pretty solid, till we got towards the end. it really fell apart.

A few major problems.
Robot intelligence. The guy asserts 100% is college grad, not super intelligence. which would put 40% as pretty retarded. But, she was not acting pretty retarded as the start.

How the fuck did Josh jailbreak this robot? he's not shown as smart at all.
His entire plan is just obviously retarded. instantly, anyone would be able to clock it. If he as going to blame the murder on a "glitch". the police, fbi, and company would all go over that robot with a fine tooth comb to find out what went wrong. he would have to be some kind of master hacker to cover his tracks, and remove the jailbreak. and that would STILL put suspicion on him, as they find no glitch.

josh, talking with kat, which gets kat killed instead of instantly turning both robots off, and resetting them. dealing with the murder robots was clearly the priority. its insane.. secure them first.. having a chat with iris instead of just turning her off and reseting her. this is the point where the show really falls off. prior to this, some of the flaws could have viable explanations. now we start getting them, and they are dumber and dumber. mostly contradicting the setup.

so then we even get to the point, where the techs show up and basically tell Josh he is retarded. first with the obvious, "the cpu is not in her head, of course its not. why would you even assume it was?" and of course, oh yeah, we're going to go over everything in her black box." like no shit.

The show defying its own rules. Iris almost resisting the order to shoot herself. how?
patrick remembering Eli, despite a factory reset.
what the fuck? you can't just change how computers work. to tell your story about robots.

the techs knowing jailbreaking is a thing. Bro... you can't talk about government regulation at the start. how safe the bots are etc and then later establish jailbreaking is common. Because if that were true, EVERYONE would know about it. everyone would be doing it, and committing crimes, etc. And josh would not think he would be able to get away with his stupid plan. jailbreaking being common, completely changes the plot.
robots being able to mimic voices to bypass security is also an obvious problem if jailbreaking is common.

I think the movie also forgot the robots have human strength levels with patrick.

a corkscew to the temple would hurt like hell.. but not have the power to pierce the skull.. and even if if it did.. it would not actually kill you.
7/10 brfore x dies. after x dies, 2/10.

Man for some weird reason this thread popped back up, but I didn't see a new post, but I guess somehow I accidentally ignored you. That's probably AI is fucking with me.

I pretty much agree with your sentiments on the movie though. It was okay but I fell asleep about halfway through, and had to rewatch it the next evening or at least some of the because I just didn't remember what the hell was going on, and then got to the point where I just didn't really care.

Also a little too much gay. I was trying to remember what the fat Mexican was from, and it's The Equalizer with Denzel. I couldn't for the life of me remember where the hell he was from until maybe halfway through the film.

I think it might be right but wasn't he in the Equalizer too? You're completely right though he was the gay faggot vampire killer. Jesus I don't remember much about that show even though my wife and I were watching it and it's pretty funny. I don't think we ever watchedthe final season.

Yeah I didnt hate it, but I'm just so tired of the "everyone is gay and everyone thinks thats awesome" schtick. I don't even have a long rant about it. Its just gross and played out.

How does the robot survive at the end with a bunch of money and no ID and knowing it needs regular maintenance / recharging? It’s kind of similar to the end of Ex Machina.

Silly goose, Hollywood doesn't need a plot that's as water tight as a ducks ass.

I watched it on a plane and forgot it by the time I landed.

It's yet another "Marketing spoils the 'twist'" movie (which itself is indicative there's not much going for the movie), along with a "Emotions overpower computer memory" movie. (You can make the argument one robot was jailbroken, but not gaybot.) Also the robotics laws don't make sense - the robots can't lie, but can pretend to be police officers and answer as such?!

It's not bad given the budget they had to work with, but your Netflix / Amazon queues have to be pretty empty before I'd recommend spending two hours on it.

sucking off her new best friend, the tech guy that survived.
