It should (again, this is WEI, so... hopefully it's behaving as it should) be testing your system drive. If Windows is on your SSD, it should be using your SSD for the tests.

Do you have any system files (i.e. page file?) on your 7200rpm drive?

I'd try using HD Tune (http://www.hdtune.com) to see what the numbers really are. WEI is notorious for not reporting what it's really doing unless you go check the logs (and I forget where they are, or if they're even stored by default).

Bleh, no luck. ;/ Just going to tolerate it until I pick up another computer in a year or two I guess. Don't want to fuck Newegg over again to test a different PSU.

Thanks for the help.
It does sound a bit like a power supply problem though my experience has usually been the system rebooting; if you haven't try unplugging everything you can (hdd, optical, extra fans) to see if it still occurs.

Just curious, have you tried another video card (other than the 660TI)?

Yeah, if you've swapped motherboards AND video cards and still having issues, it almost has to be power related at that point, or maybe even something really weird like a grounding issue with the case/motherboard. I assume if you've gone to those extreme lengths you've also reinstalled Windows and the problem still persisted?

I replaced my ATI 5850 with a 7950 video card a couple weeks ago and been having problems with my mic ever since. I had to unplug and mess with a lot of cables inside to make space since the card is so massive, but I thought I plugged everything back in correct, and it looked fine when I re-opened the case about a week ago. I've been really busy recently and haven't had a chance to toss the old 5850 back into the computer to see if the video card is fucking something up somehow, but basically my headphones are fine as "speakers" in the rear jacks and sounds plays fine, but my computer now doesn't recognize the mic hooked up to the rear jack. I've tried 2 sets of headphone/mics and same deal with both. When I plug it into the plugs on the front of the case it recognizes the mic and headset, but I've had problems with the front mic jack since I put the computer together 2 years ago, and it doesn't work (but it at least recognizes the mic). I've gone through basically everything I can think of in the Control Panel/Sound tab, and updated the sound drivers for the board, but can't get anything working.

Could something be fucked up on the board from when I replaced the card or is it more likely that I hooked up a plug wrong? I would think if something got messed up or shorted on the board it would've taken out more than just the mic jack. Any ideas?

It's entirely likely that there was an intermittent connection in the mic jack in the first place, and whatever you were doing exacerbated it to the point where it no longer works. If you jiggle the cable on the mic (I know, you've probably tried, but just in case), do you get any feedback whatsoever? Turn "Listen" mode on on the port in Windows and see if you get anything at all. Sounds like this could be the same issue for the front mic jack if it's giving you trouble. Sounds like shitty soldering, to be honest.

Yeah, the front mic jack would be the only one that probably required an extra wire to connect to the motherboard at some point. All of those ports built into the front of your case(power button, USB, audio ports, etc) have to be wired to the mobo, but the jack on the back has no wiring, it's part of a piece that is just soldered straight onto the motherboard, along with all those USB ports, video ports, other sound ports, network jack, etc. There's really nothing on the back that could just simply come loose If one of those back ports stops working, it's not going to be a fix as simple as plugging something back in.

I have a ton of feedback from the front jack and when I do the listen to mic. So sounds like it's probably what I figured; a hardware problem. I've never used a USB jack for headphone/mic, but guess I could just get something likehttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829128004or just toss a sound card likehttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829180004into a pci slot right?
Personally I would go with a new sound card and then you can get a better quality sound (get some nice speakers), but that's just me.. USB is fine too, data rate is fast.

Those are all recommended, the bottom two are modular. Those should be way more than enough power even for dual cards.

Have you tried to see what the actual temps are in your system under load? Because this sure seems like a heat problem, maybe with the cpu? In your initial post you made no mention of your temps other than saying it does not seem hot. Try running core temp and maybe one for the graphics card. But I doubt it would be your graphics card since you did try 2 of them. Also try running prime 95 to see if you get crashes or memory errors. They have tests to stress either the cpu or the memory. Try them both and see if you are having problems with either. report back...

So it sounds like its not a temp problem, its not the gpu, its not the memory, and not the CPU. So IMO that leaves either a buggy ass mo-bo, bad SSD, or PSU.
