Console services have destroyed the market for consoles - Switch to PC Now

That’s just a console with extra steps. That has to be on their mind. A Steam based console.

Sony imo is way more recoverable than MS. It takes culture a little bit to swing back. The world has clearly had enough of tranny shit.

MS has completely cratered as a business operation; they are still making tons of money but not with the growth they were hoping for and obviously without the internal confidence from MS Exec support/leadership they need.
The other question is how long is it going to take them to recoup the 86 billion they spent buying games companies.

With video cards costing what they do, no thanks... I might get a Framework Desktop, but only to play with AI models locally with the expanded video RAM.

My wife has become the biggest console user in the house the past 2 years. I still feel like I have such a backlog of games over the past 10 years that xbox gamepass is justified but maybe not anymore. Upgrading my PC and giving my old one to my son, then getting a Steam deck for the wife is probably the way going forward.

I'll do this when MS finally makes connecting a PC to a TV work as well as an Xbox for gaming and a Shield TV for everything else.

Maybe they'll get there by Windows 21, but I wouldn't count on it.

For me, I plug in the HDMI cable and change my sound output in sound settings. That's it. I used to think this would be tough - but it isn't. What issues are you running into other than this?

I just bought the Framework Desktop mainboard. Only the 64GB version was in stock, but good enough to get my dick wet. I'm not sure I'd want to run a full whack LLM on something that slow, anyway. By the time I get done fiddling with it, AMD will have desktop AI parts and I can use this for HTPC or something.

I didn't get their full PC kit. Their chassis is a potato and PSU is small, hot, and loud. I bought a mini ATX chassis with wildly better cooling and can fit an ATX PSU. Also grabbed an Intel WIFI 6 card with wires...the Framework mainboard doesn't have sockets for external antennae. The Framework chassis covers up the PCIE slot. Also grabbed a 2TB nvme, 1/2 the cost of theirs. All this is $138 cheaper than an identically equipped Framework Desktop, but with far better cooling and a whole lot more quiet.

I'll probably start off with CachyOS. It's designed for speed and low latency. I expect headaches with getting AI to run on this SOC, but it shouldn't be too bad. Not a bad idea to hone these rusty ole knives, anyway.

Consoles will thrive and live on. Normies which have been playing consoles all their lives are not just going to buy some PC or Steam deck or whatever, lol. Consoles will continue to sell regardless who makes them. Normies want EZ and cheap(er) shit they can sit down on their couch, turn on and just plays games they download from some service. I mean one of my kids is like that. He even has a beefy ass PC which can play anything at 2K, 166 fps, and still prefers his xbox because thats where all his buds are. even if some of those games are locked at 60fps or whatever.

Now as to Microsoft and their holdings? Who the fuck knows. Bottom line is they own some of the biggest brands in gaming. They just need to make good games that are worth those brands again which is jsut not happening.

Imagine, for example, if Starfield or whatever the fuck was a banger. They would have made bank off that shit and sold assloads of subs to their MS game service. But the shit was a dud. Steaming pile laid at the feet of gamers. So they got what they got.

One of the big selling points for a console in the past (for me) was as a media player.
Sony in their infinite wisdom still has not released a dlna player for the PS5, refuses to let jellyfin publish an app etc. Its's still possible using random other 3rd party apps or the browser but Sony's insistence on making this so hard is mind boggling. On my LG smart TV I can just open the built in media player and away I go, no more need for the PS5 there.

This morning I decided to install TESO since it cost $5 so I could play with my son but what do you know I have to subscribe to fucking ps+ to even play this supposedly free to play game. Fuck right off.

So yeah I'm there already.

If I'm going to use it instead of a console then I want it plugged into my receiver to be able to switch the TV to it whenever I want. But I'm obviously not going to leave the TV on all the time, and that causes problems. Like when the PC wakes up from standby it will randomly send a window to the TV and none of the keyboard/taskbar shortcuts can get it back. I end up having to turn the whole HT system on just to drag the window back and then shut it back down. It also really doesn't like mixing resolutions, especially having ultrawide on my desk and 4K on the TV. Regular 1440p doesn't behave much better either though. Windows change size, it likes to rearrange my desktop, etc.

Then there's HDR, which is still an abomination on PC even if you just have a single monitor and gets exponentially worse when you have multiple displays with different calibrations (or a desktop monitor with no HDR at all) or you want HDR on for the TV but off for the desktop at the same time. And that's just plain old HDR10. Dolby Vision is a whole 'nother can of worms, good fucking luck getting that to work at all.

I guess you can probably get a somewhat tolerable experience if your PC is connected to the TV and nothing else, but that's definitely not something I'd ever want to do.

So for me, I’m running eARC from my OLED to the receiver which supports everything above. When I go back to receiver switching I just change back to input 2 on the TV. PC goes into standby and I don’t see a thing. Once I switch back I just press a key on my keyboard, I’m back in.

My profiles for displays are switching automatically - detects I’m no longer on my 32” MSI and am on my 65”. Only thing I have to ever do is change sound output to the 5080.

Dolby Atmos is always functioning.

I have a 60" tv over my gaming PC that has been relegated to watching NFL via Roku as hooking it up to my PC causes so damn many flickering issues it's not worth the hassle. TV is a little older but it's a Sony 4k when 60hz was a big deal.

HDR isn't an issue for me but I use a 43" LG C4 as a my only monitor, and it switches on and off as games implement it.

Oh man that shit pisses me off, you know what's even worse? Games you pay for that have offline/solo modes that still require you to have an active PS+ membership in order to get past the start screen. Battlefield 2042 comes to mind, I picked that up on a deep sale one day because I liked how they finally added a solo/offline conquest mode, and when I went to play it one time I didn't have an active PS+ membership, the game wouldn't allow me to get past the start screen, telling me I need to have an active PS+ membership to do anything.

Shit like that is why I just don't fuck around with these modern online multiplayer games anymore. Like I can go back to something like Black Ops 2 or COD Cold War which used to be a hugely popular online multiplayer game, and I can still play all the offline stuff without any online membership no problem. Any game that requires online subscriptions is just a total no-go for me now a days.
