Going to be interesting to see which game I like better - this one with a real RTS set of gameplay rules - or Total War: Warhammer 40k with its army gameplay rules. I like both types, so it wont be terrible to have both.

But it sounds like this game is going to sell factions just like Total War does. Does it say that in one of those 15-20 minute videos?

So I went and looked it up since I kinda didn't bother watching most videos so far. They actually released a roadmap a couple months back. Unlike previous Dawn of War, which used an expansion system where you buy like a $30-40 expansion every 1-2years or whatever with a bunch of races in them at once, it seems they're going for the piecemeal frequent updates more similar to TW.

Their plans so far is to release some free content frequently, and have DLCs release every 4-6months or so? Dates not set in stone yet just quarters and shit.

From the video below, around 1-2months after release they'll be adding Crusade mode which is like a non-narrative campaign mode similar to Dawn of War 1 Dark Crusade mode or Immortal Empires in Total War. The game only launches with Last Stand(from DoW2, a horde mode where you just survive with only your hero) and Skirmirsh(usual AI or PvP map stuff), and the main story campaign with likely low replayability. Along that some new maps, and then every few months will be more maps, and more commanders added to Last Stand/Crusade mode, and also mission editor to allow ppl to make maps.

At some point in winter they'll be releasing a paid DLC named Blood Ravens Story Prologue which I guess will be a cheap extension to the existing campaign. In spring next year, they have a paid new faction planned with a further extension of the campaign(presumably tied to that faction obviously).

Honestly kinda looks bad to do it this way so I'll probably skip launch and see how it goes after that.

Anyone planning to buy this at launch is a retard. Despite what an absolute disaster DoW 3 was I think I'd still give Relic better odds of righting the ship than trusting some random ass studio known mainly for point and click adventure games whose only RTS is 71% positive on Steam. Although looking at the even worse reviews for Company of Heroes 3 maybe GW was right to roll the dice on new devs. That roadmap also does not sound promising at all.

My guy feeling is this early getting a grip on the metal multiplayer of it isn't dog shit like 3. Total war is always shit for a year with pay to win or even pay most faction packages, grab it on sale in a big collection later imo.

I'm not terribly hopeful when you pair it with looking at what they did to coh as well

I didn't mean buying it at launch like preordering but more looking at reviews/watching some twitch streams to get an idea and buying it week 1, but the way it's done it's better to just check it out again in a year see how it ended up.
