That basically leaves them with Everquest, Everquest 2, Planetside 2, and H1Z1 for in house games they can fuck with. Everquest is played out, Everquest 2 is dead man walking, Planet Side 2 is... does anybody even play this anymore? Then there is H1Z1... does that even exist anymore? Seriously. I have no idea if H1Z1 even exists at this point.

So... what's left for the retards? Maybe upper management at DBG/DPG should start practicing their burger flipping skills, but then AI robot technology is going to make that job disappear as well eventually.

They can relaunch Vanguard.

I'd love to see those server pop numbers. But even more so, I hope the THJ guys are demanding to see those numbers in court. If DBG can't point to a spike in players after THJ shut down, doesn't that kill their lawsuit (or part of it at least)? If DBG can't show a spike in revenue their whole "it's THJ's fault" argument goes right out the window, right?
I bet EG7 might like to see those numbers as well.
That is 100% what Daybreak is going to try to do. They’ve destroyed their ability to show it, though, because they put in a 100% xp bonus on ONLY Fangbreaker literally the day after thj got taken offline. Now there’s zero hope of separating how much of any uptick in fb pop is from one vs the other. They’ll definitely argue in bad faith it’s solely due to thj coming down.

They did this, but they've also did 2 suspenion/ban waves since the injunction was put in place to most likely invalidate any possible overall uptick game wide. They really are some dumb fucks.

A shame, I wanted to try THJ during my winter break.

daybreak could have added THJ to a "custom servers page" with a huge DONATE TO CREATOR button where they'd get 30% of any donations.
1) you let other keep your game alive
2) you do nothing
3) ???
4) $$$

Lots of stuff could have happened. But at this point they decided to nip it in the bud like they should have after p99. Not making it explicitly clear that emulators needed to get their permission first and foremost was stupid. I mean, they did make it explicitly clear you had to be not making money off of it, but look how that turned out.

If I was daybreak's executive team, any day now I'd fire the clowns running my old MMO, drop this lawsuit if the THJ devs agree to come work for me to make a fun ruleset server that players actually want to play. I'd also get rid of all the pay-to-win/dress-up garbage but hey, that's just me, keeping it out of one fun server might be all they need to rehabilitate their manure pile of an image.

I love it when people who have no idea just come up with ideas thinking they have all the answers.

If you hired the THJ devs and dropped the current devs, dbg would instantly loose 75% of its revenue (50% live players 25% pop rerollers).

The answer has to be an approved EMU program where the EMU servers appear on server select but you have to have a subscription to dbg. The emu creators can then accept donations freely, and there are no limits to the content they release aslong as it followed community guidelines of some sort.

You do not love it, stop it you big kidder.

Your idea sounds great, if they could make it work somehow but doesn't seem likely, hiring them seems like a safer choice.

Edit: Or is there any company that does this already?

You assume any of the devs would even consider working for them. An official affiliate system might work, but DBG would 100% be the ones in control of any purse strings, which would mean passion projects only, and only those willing to accept strict content/system restrictions. P99 and Quarm good, THJ still bad.

The fallout from this and the Turtle WOW lawsuit may end up killing emulated servers globally. Respecting our copyright law is built into our treaties and agreements with almost every nation on the planet, obviously not so much China and USSR, but everyone else. If the call goes out to turn off all routes to/from offending servers that host emulated infringers, you can expect that most countries are going to play along. Losing a tiny amount of $$$ from China and USSR vs losing shitloads from the US.

Emulation won't die, but trying to emulate a live service in public will. ROMs and private shit that isn't open to the public won't change because there is no centralized hub for the creators to go after that won't be able to pop up again wherever. A live service game has to have a dedicated centralized server for players to access. Those can, and will, be DOA if this gets big enough. Even the tiny shit DBG is doing is causing major waves, and that is over pissant money. M$FT coming in hot will have international incident level money on the table, and they *do* have congress critters they have long since bought and paid for that will happily tow the line for them.

everything you just said is right if its being hosted in a country that cares.

That was more or less my thought, make it so it must go through DBG servers, make it so money comes in steady, but let others developp your game. Bethesda excels in that, releasing pile of shit games and waiting for the mod community to fix and patches everything.
Anyway, here we are.
