This is a noob question so please feel free to tell me to fuck off and search myself. Wanting to upgrade my Pc this cycle, it’s been 7 years. Are the new AMD chips this fall the same socket as the current gen? I’m going to start buying things now in case of shortages this fall when everything releases.

If they are in fact the same, what current mother boards you guys recommend? I’mplanning on doing 30x0 NVIDIA card and the new AMD processors if the prices aren’t crazy. If they are I’ll just do a 3700x.

I do gaming, 3D CAD design, 3D printing software, itunes, emulators, email, porn, etc.

Youre in my situation except i updated every other year. The X670 socket is the same size as far as i know i just havent pulled the trigger on a X570 MSI since i imagine id need a bios update and i dont have a previous gen cpu to use. I am also waiting to see what changes will come with the X670 boards that the X570 do not have since if im going to build completely new i may as well have new everything.

Just missing some good b-die ram, cpu, mobo, and perhaps case change to lian li in september. However with no DDR5 this year, i could eliminate waiting on different ram and motherboard and pull the trigger but it seems everyone is holding out on much info to the last possible minute.

Thanks Xexx Xexx Looking in the <$300 range it looks like this may be my best bet. I’ve had gigabyte the last few builds and have never had a MB issue. Anyone know if they’re still a good board? Last one I bought was seven years ago. I’m open to other companies if they suck now, I just don’t follow PCs anymore other than skimming threads on this forum.

GIGABYTE X570 AORUS PRO WiFi (AMD Ryzen 3000/X570/ATX/PCIe4.0/DDR4/USB3.1/Realtek ALC1220-VB/Fins-Array Heatsink/RGB Fusion 2.0/2xM.2 Thermal Guard/Gaming Motherboard)

That’s a good one, I think Gigabyte is still a great manufacturer even if I haven’t bought one in a while. I’d advise to check actual tech reviews of it and see if any common complaints arise.

After poking around, think I’ll go with this stuff but with possible next gen of AMD processor and a 30x0 GeForce instead of what I listed here. I’ll watch stuff to see if it goes on sale so may end up changing a few things here and there, not really dead set on anything really, just want something that will last me another seven years~

I would get a better power supply

Make sure to not get that motherboard; its the one with vrms failing in basic reviewer testing, I believe. 650+W Power supply might be safer if you might ever get a xx80ti. 4000 series might also want faster ram, again.

Always recheck pricing before you buy, lot of components getting prices jacked up due to availability these days.

you already get a wraith cooler, if youre intent on using something other than the free included wraith cooler, get something more vastly superior.

why a 2tb hard drive? maybe get a bit more space, and dear lord don't get a shitty seagate, wd only imo, or just wait even more until prices drop, if youre just buying a small 2tb data drive, then you don't have that much data to begin with, when youre already getting a 1tb ssd.

Just to store extra junk like picture backups and video/music files. It’s basically an external hard drive use, that’s internal. Everything important will run on the SSD.

I did t realize I got that cooler already, thanks! If it works I’m fine with it, if there’s something way better that isn’t $200 I’ll get it, just don’t know what to look at.

i mean if you really want to just "set it and forget", a noctua d15 for 90bucks is all you'll need

Damnit. I just changed it to that based on the last few pages of people recommended that brand, but they may have the $400 MBs idk. I switched from the gigabyte one because it had an extra 12v slot and every damn PS I selected didn’t have an extra one for it. Said it may not be necessary bit it was bothering me.

Made a new build based on feedback. I’m going to try to find time to watch some motherboard videos because right now I’m just picking them at random and 4-5 star ratings.

Changed MB, ram, power supply...and spin disk brand due to lanx bitching at me.

Thanks. I’m not sure I’ll need it, I don’t ever mess with over clocking anymore. I mean I’m still running a seven year old PC and it gets by, it’s just slow on 3d print slicing, some games I run lower graphic settings. Whatever I build is going to destroy it without doing any tweaks.

If I do have any issues though I’ll grab one of those.

an extra 12v slot

Gotta say this often, you never need to fill the extra 12v cpu slot, the first one is good for 384 W. On the cheaper boards, the vrm would probably fail before the single 12v slot (extreme LN2 situations that hobbyists wouldn't do on a cheap board anyways.)

Ah ok, thanks. Looks like I’m at this build then. Will watch this stuff for price drops for the next few months. Thanks for your help nerds.

Since you have time to score parts, the x570 Tomahawk would be the absolute best in the $200 range. Yeah watch for sales, big deals can happen, got this for $69 on Christmas ($99 + 30$ rebate)

The tomahawk looks like it’s a $400 board, does it dip down into the $200s on big sales? I see one on sale for $339 as the cheapest, but another $75 for shipping.

The MSI board is fine, the Tomahawk is the go to for price but it also depends if you can ever find it.

Nice build. Over the years I've turned into such a cheap ass. The last few hard drives I bought were off of Reddit and used. They were SSD's, with verified Crystal Disk stats on them. Even the EVO Samsung series is built to last way longer than I'd ever be able to use it for, and you can get a lot of great deals.

Just transitioned from Firefox over to Edge Chromium. Fast, good on CPU and memory useage, nice interface. Highly recommend it.
