Hah. The Evo was my brother's and was originally the OS. I just decided to keep it in tower but formatted it as an additional drive. The RAM - I don't really use the computer as much as I used to. I may down the line get 128GB of at least 3000Mhz.
That is insanely high. I have 32gb and even with 10 browser tabs, 3D printer slicer, iTunes, torrent, game running, hardware monitors all running I’m at like 60-65% usage.

What are you doing with this PC you’d use 128gb?

I wouldn't put 128 in it for a while. Like I said, I don't really use it all that much since I don't play a lot of games due to work. Just nice to have a computer that I can actually game on since I've been using an iMac all this time, rofl.

Ok. Just for money saving advice you won’t need 128gb when you do get new RAM. Just get 32gb of faster ram. Some day, open up tons of shit and a game. Look at your task manager and see how much you’re actually using. If you’re hitting 80% or something then maybe think about 64gb.

To spend the money that you did on the build that you have, and to be just like "meh" about your RAM speed when it's no harder to buy than your slow ass RAM is really weird. Ehhh, I don't use it that often but let me get a 3090? yea, that makes perfect sense. You're being weird man!! Lol

Dont forget with these new AMD Ryzens, not only is ram speed important but having 4 sticks instead of 2 is also huge boost, like 20% from the video posted a while back. Matched set of 4 sticks, 32gb of 3200+ is sounding quite nice for these new Ryzens. Plus with 32GB youre kinda future proofing some.

No benefit to 4 sticks if they are dual rank, while most 8gb sticks are single rank ...MOST 16gb sticks are dual rank. if you're trying to get good ram atleast get 3600 cl16 regardless

Dude, you didn't even look at the picture you posted.
Right under the chipset it says 4x Sata 6GB/s ...guaranteed you don't need open pcie lanes for them. Did you look at the picture before saying that I didn't look at it?

This B550, $170 board is PCIE 4.0?? What am I missing here, and what again does a $100 more X570 board give you that this board above doesn't assuming you're running one m.2 drive, a new graphics card, and 870 evo storage? I'm not being pedantic, I just want to know to see if I'm actually missing something.
You're not missing anything. I'm running a 3080, a 970 evo (PCI 3.0), and an 860 evo. So I'm not even using all of the 4.0 lanes as it is.

X570 Tomahawk is not 100 over that unless tariffs jacked it up -

That aside

and for the guy mentioning 128gb....why?

I feel my 32gb is alot for just gaming, porn, and bots - whats up with that cray amount? :D

You either want 2 sticks of dual ranked or 4 sticks of single ranked. Memory topology also plays a role, with daisy chain being more common than T-topology. IIRC daisy chain motherboards benefit a little more from 2 sticks of dual rank. 2 sticks also have the benefit of being easier to overclock if you're going that route.

You can look up your motherboard topology here.

I got you, but again, if you're only running a single M.2 drive, a single GPU why do you need an x570 over the Asus board I linked (like most people, including those with high end rigs)? What am I missing here - according to your link, you may get a better LAN? Onboard cooling? Which is dumb as fuck anyways and just another thing to break?

My x570 was $209 but has added WiFi which added $30 or $40 I think.

Also it’s obvious why the x570 is better than the b550. It has 20 more.

Not that you give a shit about my opinion, but I’ll place it here. The X570 Tomahawk is the best MB I’ve run and was incredibly easy to flash the bios and have it running without any tinkering. Posted first time around. Would buy again

x570 has extra PCIe lines with allows for additional USB 3, USB C, etc to go along with additional PCIe 4.0 NVMe drives. B550 also needs a PLEX chip for x8/x8 on the x16 slots, which is almost a $80-100 premium and only certain b550s will have it. X570 can do x8/x8 on the x16 slots without one.

The only reason I grabbed a B550 board was because some guy sold his combo board from a Ryzen 5000 purchase for $99 on ebay. Not having to wait for the AMD CPU to update the x570 board helped also.

Boy did I pick the wrong time to build a new budget PC for my kid (well not so much picked as it is his birthday coming up). I was hoping to build a system in the $600 range, but I can't even find a entry level video card in stock at a reasonable price. I'm open to any and all suggestions on a build in that range if it is even possible. I've been out of the PC building loop for way too long.

Everything is overpriced atm and stock on latest gen is in the toilet. You're going to have to search for sales on older stuff if you want anything close to that range.

Coupon wouldn't work when I went to look at it. I've resigned myself to waiting a month or two while attempting to build myself, or hoping a deal with ibuypower or similar comes out. I'm kind of conflicted between an amd or intel processor. This seems like a decent deal.. if only they had a location close:

I had been looking at a Ryzen 3600, but is that intel worth the jump in price? Should I be considering other intel processors in the 3600's price range?

Depends if you have an MC near you and what technology youd like your MB to have - the 5600x was in stock in most MCs in mid-east yesterday for $300 and you could do the mobo/cpu combo for $20 off.

If doing AMD cpu/gpu id say AMD since Nvidia hasnt done their version of the boost.

However if going intel then 3080 is a great choice since it can do 4k and has other things like DLSS and RTX if thats your thing.

Personally i feel a 6800xt and 5600x will carry quite well until RT/DLSS is more widespread in games and in most situations especially outside 4k the 6800xt will smash on the 3080 and 3090. Not to mention if you can get it @ retail it comes out cheaper paired with a b550 or x570 tomahawk(i agree the board is 100% legit).

At any rate always put budget before the build then the rest comes easy.
