Well, I just found out both oblivion and dune have stuttering issues that have nothing to do with the graphics cards themselves. So I cancelled my 5070 ti order.

These games are just poorly optimized..

Always expect UE5 to have stuttering issues, they haven't fixed the underlying problem behind it yet so it's unlikely game devs are going to magically overcome that.

you could buy a prebuilt computer from 15years ago
Bruh. He was looking to sell the desktop for like $50 lol. It was 10 years old pre-built Best Buy one with 1 stick of RAM (8gb) and a 580 GPU. It took like 10 min just to navigate it to find out its task manager > performance so I can see the settings.

So now I'm just going to go with buying a brand new GPU from Amazon. Ive got a $650 gift card I'm going to use to buy an Nvidia card to use as an EGPU w/ my lenovo legion go (apparently using AMD cards is a fucking nightmare with the a handheld pc egpu dock).

Now I just need to decide if I want to buy the 3060 12 GB ($350), the 5060 16 GB ($530) or the 5070 12 GB ($630). It's honestly mostly so I can play helldivers ii on a 1440p monitor.

When I play helldivers ii on my handheld, its on medium settings and runs like 30 fps. I want to run it at 75+ on 1440p on high settings. I dont play open world games. I mostly just play single player shooters and from software games.

I didnt have any stuttering issues on the XSX for Oblivion. I wonder if its a PC port issue.

My current setup:

Lenovo Legion Go
Xbox Series X
Aoostar EGPU w/ 800w psu
HDMI 2.1 Anker cables into a HP Omen 165 hz IPS monitor

I probably sound like a broken record, but need some advice.

Through Amazon's scammer fuckup, Amazon.com is willing to sell me specifically a 9070 XT 16 GB for $530. I would go with this, but Ive read horror stories with the Lenovo Legion Go and AMD cards, that the Z1X igpu drivers constantly fuck with the AMD eGPU drivers.

However. I am looking at my buddy's old gaming pc earlier today to make an offer either on the computer as a whole, or just the gpu. He doesnt know what the gpu is, he doesnt reallyk now anything about building pcs or stats, he's a PS5 player that never touches his old pre-built gaming pc.

Are there any things I need to look out on the MOBO for this current generation of gpus? I want to makesure if I buy his old computer that is compatible with a 2025 AMD GPU. If I buy his old computer, Im wondering if I will be able to swap out the GPU for the 9070 XT 16 GB, maybe update the SSD and the RAM, update the drivers, then call it a day.

I'm mostly likely assuming his set up is a basic ass entry-level gaming pc from Costco from 2019.
What scammer fuckup?

Looking at $1100 Costco PC from 2019, best guess as to specs I could find were PCIE 3x, which may limit top end frame rate somewhat. PCIE 4x was common a the time but the machines listed seem to be more budget AM4 vs AM5 in current parlance, happy and hope to be in error in this regard.

Some quick reading noted that most cards, and this was in relation to 4060/70 and 9070 XT didn't challenge 4x, and probably wouldn't challenge 3x; It's late early and I'm tired but I have seen/read some articles in the past that looked at this more closely and you might want to take a look for something like that. That will be your only limiting factor from the motherboard as far as GPUs go. Physically the PCIE spec has been the same since Intel came up with it in the mid 90s, IIRC, taking over from AGP, and since then only the bandwidth/throughput has increased as we moved from 2x to 3x to 4x and now 5x on the upper end boards as the PCIE council or whatever agrees on the spec for transfers.

TLDR it may be a little limited on the top end but take the Amazon deal, as that will be worth more long term no matter which machine you end up with buying/building out.

I ordered a sapphire nitro+ 9070 XT last week for $530 from an Amazon dealer that turned out to be a scammer. I reported it to amazon, wasn’t charged, and the scammers account was deactivated.

however Amazon said they would honor the price if I ordered a 9070 XT from a amazon.com , regardless of name brand, as long as it says “sold by amazon.com”

Nice. Kinda wish I got the 217, but the 216x is the best case I've ever built with hands down.

I will say I wish I got any other 9070xt besides the gigabyte. It is so FUCKING LOUD

Can you undervolt/fan profile it down to be more quiet? I hate that, I love Gigabyte as a brand and would have bought one if I could. XFX Mercury OC looks amazing, though. My Power Color Red Devil is thankful quiet.

Yeah I undervolted it to some success but the default fan curve is too much. I'm gonna work on making it less aggressive and see what I can do.
The ocd part of my brain hates that the temps will be higher now. But the noise is crazy.

I was tweaking all of my stuff when I first got it because I spent a fair amount on it, then I realized that the card never got hot and the CPU temp never got above 34-35C. It wasn't that long ago that you could get serious extra performance out of every single part if you worked at it but now the gains almost everywhere are seemingly minimal, other than turning on settings. The days of the hand tuning/clocking parts to max out systems seems to have passed.

I saw that 9070XT too when I was browsing for a 9060XT to buy to test. It was the Nitro+ model too IIRC.

I have the XFX version of the 9070XT and it's loud too, but I sleep with a box fan for white noise. So, the fan noise from a computer has never bothered me.

Damn AIBs need to make a bring-your-own-fans style card that takes standard 120x25mm fans like the Noctua Edition Asus cards - they would print money. No more excuses now with high end GPUs being nearly 4 slots wide. Noise levels would come way down if GPU fans weren't these 92mm and 80mm fans that need to spin at 3-4K RPM due to no static pressure.

I think living in the desert has made me immune to fan noise. With a AC going most of the time, a fan basically going 24/7 if I am in the room(yes even in the winter, its just set to very low), no sound PC fans can make will ever bother me. Probably doesn't help that if I am in the room there is almost a 100% chance I have headphones on with music going.

Also, the more sound the fans make, the less sounds the dogs will bark at.
