Don't get more than 2 video cards, it's a waste. While a 2nd video card adds 80-90% more power over just 1, the 3rd and 4th have much greater diminishing returns. Basically a waste of money unless you just have so much money to burn that it doesn't matter whatsoever. I personally wouldn't want to spend another $1500 on 2 more cards for barely better gains than adding the 2nd card. (I mean, 2nd card boosts you say 90%, 3rd card might be 70%, and 4th card like 50%)

Actually the third video card gets rid of microstutters.

And that's just plain overkill.....

i7 for games? Overkill no advantage over the i5
16 gigs ram? Overkill, but its cheap so whatever...
That cooler? The evo 212 does 95% its cooling for 1/3 price
$200 motherboard? LOL
500 gig SSD? Sure but its not necessary. Id rather have a smaller one and a few 2 terrabyte platters to store my porn on. No advantage having your games or video on them.
2 780 gtx? Let me guess, to power your 4x 4K monitors?

Youre better off getting a $1500 system now, then 3 yrs down the line scrapping it and getting a new one for another $1500 and laugh at all the fools that spent $3K 3 yrs ago. Or just give Brad the other $1500

I can understand the burning desire to NOT build a PC for someone else though. You end up being their free tech support for life because you built it, so you're responsible for it. I've done it for several friends, and it can suck bad.
I would tell him I would help him build it, so he can learn and than wash my hands of it. But I actually would not mind having an excuse to go see a bud and have some beers while we fuck around on his PC...

I'd go with a i5 z87 4670 for 1-2 video cards (780ti is the reigning champ) and kick it up to a i7e x79 4820 for 3-4 video cards (the x79 has a lot more pci-e lanes for going crazy with sli)

Also if you go with the i5 z87 I'd be sure to get a motherboard with no extra bullshit on it, if they stick an extra sata6 controller that takes up so much as a single pcie lane it'll knock your graphics cards speed down a notch, from x16 to x8 for a single card and from x8+x8 to x4+x4 for 2 card sli. It's not a problem with the x79's 40 pcie lanes, but it can fuck with a z87.

A $3k build I likehttp://pcpartpicker.com/p/2Vaxr

Built it without the dead-sexy ft02 silver case though =(. I know $250 is a lot for a case, but the uni-body aluminum sexyness that is the ft02 will last many builds and may not be in production much longer since Silverstone released the ass-ugly ft04 as it's successor. Something to think about.

This one would be fun toohttp://pcpartpicker.com/p/2VbgX4-way sli 760s in a micro atx case. I like the teeny towers

You can use a dvi-hdmi adapter that should be less than 10$. No difference in quality whatsoever.

I absolutely agree, and that's exactly the strategy I use, I spend about $1200-$1500 when I build a new PC. You can cut down that $3000 build to $1500 and still retain like 80% of the performance for half the cost. But, he wanted to spend 3 grand, so there it is.

You forgot to mention that it's a crappy TN and it's going to be a bit more than the 200$ Eyashusa wants to spend.

Someone needs to grab some koreans and add lightboost / gsync to them.

I was actually responding to Dumar's post, which I failed to quote, since he linked a similar monitor from Asus :p

I want to clarify though the TN panel they are using for the Swift is far from crappy. Its actually considerably better than the vast majority of 6-bit TN panels on the market since it uses a truly native 8-bit TN panel with no frc/dithering.

8bit IPS/PVA/PLS panels in regards to color fidelity, accuracy, and viewing angles will still be a bit better, but IPS/PVA/PLS simply can not perform at the refresh rates and latencies that a gaming monitor of this caliber (and gsync) requires.

Additionally it has:

144Hz refresh rate
1ms latency
Native 8-bit non-dithered TN panel (16.7M gamut)
PWM-free flicker-free Backlight
ULMB Strobing (officially part of the gsync spec)

Those who have seen it in person all say it is an amazing monitor. At any rate I plan on buying one myself and I'll give the thread my impressions of it at that time.

You didn't say how much you're willing to pay for it. I'd buy one too if it's 300-400$ but I'm pretty sure it's gonna be 600-800$.

Yep, its gonna come in at $799. Hefty for sure. To me, it'll be worth it and Dumar also did ask for a top-of-the-line build

But good news is BenQ, Philips, and ViewSonic all have cheaper 1080P Gsync monitors on the way. The Swift is the only 1440P one though.

Opinions. I bought an r9 280x in Nov for 280$, I have the chance to sell it for 400$, in which case I would buy a gtx770 for 320$. Worth it? Or stick with the r9?

Id probably do it, the only benchmarks I've seen where a 280x beats a 770 are high resolution(1440p or above) when a 3GB 280x is being compared to a 2GB 770.

Given the same amount of RAM, the 770 would win pretty much every benchmark comparison possible. It doesn't win by a huge margin, usually 10% or less, but why not turn a profit while at worst getting the same performance(and sometimes slightly better)

Maybe not news but looks like Nvidea has released the 750 and 750ti. Ti is going for about $150
