On another annoying note, the 24" IPS 1920x1200 monitors I prefer seem to be more expensive than the 1440p korean guys. I currently have an old Dell and a few years old HP ZR24Ws and I was looking for something similar but they are all overpriced.
I've always prefered 16:10 but I'm tempted to consider getting 1440p.
Intrinsic, I respect people OCing but my experiences were it didn't do that much for my gaming experience. I don't care about benchmarks, I care about my needs. I also get a huge discount on Alienware and generally just nab one on Dell Outlet with my discount plus a 30% off coupon. I'm in my 40s and after building rigs for 15 years it just doesn't interest me anymore. I actually priced compontents and Windows 7 and my last purchase was actually a few hundred dollars cheaper than building it myself.

You have this backwards. Ivy is 1155 (3rd gen) and Haswell is 1150 (4th gen). You guys are going to confuse the shit out of Braen.

It might not show right now, because most of our rigs are pretty solid. But fast forward 4 yrs down the line, when our 3rd or 4th generation i5s are 4-5 yrs old, eeking out that extra 1ghz will add to their longevity.
Also there is nothing wrong with just buying up a dell outlet inspiron or an Alienware. But keep in mind what makes building your own still better in the long run is that you are choosing your own components and can service them yourself. For instance you might not be able to change out the video card on that alienware because the PS is not good enough...etc.

Any recomendations on a mid tower case with good cable management, airflow but not overly too big?

It's funny you mention it, as the two AMD systems I built with components bought from Newegg and overclocked both had multiple pieces die. Granted this was in the early 2000s, but still it was a pain. My Alienware XPS 720 w/ Q6600 I bought with an NVIDIA 6800 <which I sold and upgraded to a GTX 470> about 10 years ago and my current Alienware i2500 w/ 6970 from 2 years ago from Outlet both have had zero issues. The R2 was actually brand new but had the wrong memory installed so was returned. A friend tipped me off so I bought it, opened a ticket, and replaced it and essentially got a killer new rig for almost half off.
Building PCs is far, far easier than when I screwed around with 386s, and when it required soldering. I'm sure you can get an extra few frames per second, but as I tend to keep my PCs for long periods of time I'd prefer not to OC for the small gains.
I'm still looking for a decent 19:10 24" monitor to add. What'll probably kill me is playing MS FSX on three monitors and it turning into a slideshow.

Is there that dude on the Newegg forums that still builds computers from deals on Newegg, and when enough parts have gone on sale, he puts it up for sale?
Was basically the idea that over time, Newegg discounts every part needed to build a computer, and if you can wait, in the end the result will be a very discounted, cheap awesome computer. I think the guy tacked on a few bucks to make some money but was pretty cool.

I have an Antec 1200 for my previous build, and it is fucking huge. It is an awesome case, but just too big for what I want now. And it didn't have all the cool rubber grommets and shit like the Corsair 500R when I bought mine, although it is possible that has changed. Great case, just too big. And heavy. I bought it because I wanted a raid inside it, and there is plenty of space for that, but now I have a NAS. And there is still room for like 10 drives in the 500R if you were to use all the optical drive bays, if that was your desire.
