Been 40 a bit now and just running Vanguard strikes for gear while leveling my other subclasses. Unfortunately, I didn't know everything higher than lvl 36 strikes required preformed groups (no matchmaking). My playtimes are very erratic due to work and I don't know anyone who still plays Destiny. Without in-game communication and that, what exactly am I supposed to do to get gear? I'm at 240 light so I could eke out a bit more through normal Vanguard strikes and can slowly get 280 stuff from Leg marks but not sure where to go from here...

Oh, and what are these silver coins used for? I have 200 I think but have not seen them used anywhere for currency.

Strikes with matchmaking groups will get you up to the 280-300 range and then you can go on destinylfg.com to find a group. You don't need to pre-plan you can just pop on when you're free and advertise. The Court of Oryx could be a good root to getting gear too as lots of engrams drop each time.

Assuming you mean Heroic strikes? I've tried one since I hit 240 light and it put me in a team with two people around ~230 light. Didn't even make a dent in the first room :p I think I've gotten 1 purple out of the regular Vanguard Strikes and the upgrade chance on blue engrams (to purple) and purples (to exotic) seems extremely small.

court of oryx is really good too, just grind that shit i guess? you just missed iron banner too.

honestly unless you LOVE to grind i really wouldn't bother, it doesn't look like there is any "goal" at this point to loot since likely destiny 2 (the next piece of content) will be a complete reset of all gear

I believe, could be wrong, that heroic strikes have the same chance of engram drops as regular strikes. I read when I was grinding up that the best way was to do regular as you could get 3 done in the time it takes to do 1 heroic. If you have strange coins then buy 'three of coin' from Xur and use one before the boss in each strike as it gives you a better chance of an exotic drop. Engrams produce gear within a range of your level so soon you'll get some that boosts you up real fast. It's when your 318 like I am and get nothing from the raid in a month that you start to doubt your life choices!

I guess that's why I'm constantly matched with 300+ people in the regular 36 random strikes? Versus a heroic where I seem to always get people at around 250 :/
Up to 265 or so myself and just grinding leg marks to get a vanguard rk3 pulse rifle.

Do you mean strange coins? You trade them in to Xur he is only on from Friday-Sunday and his location changes each week. He sales random exotic gear that is 280 (you can only wear 1 weapon and 1 piece of exotic armor each) Also do not buy the "legendary engrams" they're all year one items and have a very low light level.

Add Greyform if you're on the PS4 I can do the daily with you even if I have already done it. I still play this game since I am also somewhat new (been playing since Christmas). light is 298 and just started to get into the raids. Also make sure when you're turning in engrams you have your highest level light gear on (even if it's blue). Once you have a full set of legendary use the infuse option to upgrade your legendaries with higher level blues.

also how sad is it that their valentines day event thing does not have matchmaking built into it? Its like the perfect theme for matchmaking... find your perfect partner in Destiny, etc.

I was mad the event didn't have matchmaking. I played with a couple of randoms I messaged in the tower since no one was replying to LFG messages. Eventually my coworkers got home and we went 6 wins and 1 loss. Weekly done and now I guess I'm playing for a chocolate ghost.

Did we ever get a real reason why matchmaking isn't a universal thing in this game? Raids, events, etc. Never understood how this was considered an MMO.

Meant silver coins, which I have 200 of. I guess that's just to buy emotes though?
I've got 70something strange coins. I'll look for Xur when he spawns next.

I'm at 165ish legendary marks. Should I save those to upgrade stuff I find from strikes or would it be a good idea to buy a 280 weapon from the vanguard rk3 vendor? Was looking at the pulse rifle.

yeah, or a purple sparrow but I think those are 500 silver. I added some silver when they had the deal on it and picked up one of those.

I saved my marks for the Hung Jury from dead orbit. So I went weapon first. note if you buy an engram from Xur (which is more expensive) it might not be for your class once you get it decoded so be carefull there. You're better off buying an item or a weapon and three of coins.

So day two of Crimson Doubles and course they made all the bounties weeklies so nothing new! Yay. I suicide jumped off the map / out of bounds trying to get a chocolate or crimson ghost to drop but no luck. Went back to playing with folks who still had bounties until my eyes started bothering me. I'll be back on tomorrow to continue helping folks with bounties, but RNG rewards blow.

Been pvping more and really noticing the lag issues. Extremely frustrating at times. Oh well, game will probably hold me another week or so at least.

They just announced at least one major expansion this year and Destiny 2 will be a 2017 release. I'll play the next expansion, but really D2 is more on my mind. Starting over would be a lot more fun.

I know it's marketing lingo, but for some reason when Bungie says "large expansion", the word lackluster automatically comes to mind. I'm sure large to them = Crota or Skolas. Which is hardly that. I guess if there is an upside it's that this supposed "expansion" will likely be free
