The open world feel and mechanics of the game are pretty good, although I'm not a huge fan of the slow-ish combat, low TTL in PVP, and the classes feel the same because of the huge reliance on guns as weapons, but how much can you really tell at level 8 out of 20 - the polish of the game is phenomenal especially for an alpha.

But goddamn the narrative and story is cheeeeeeeeesy as fuck. The Darkness? THAT WIZARD MUST BE FROM THE MOON! Jesus Christ

also thanks Guardian for helping save humanity from extinction, now plz pay me 500 space credits for this gun

if you wander around the moon you can find vendors who sell all the level 20 gear, there are like 3 factions and you can preview all the guns and armor. some look pretty cool.

So is this mainly a FPS in a pseduo MMO lite setting? I've never played FPS's in any competitive way but really enjoy traditional MMO pvp as well as Smite. Been scratching my head why I bought a PS4....should I consider this or is it primarily FPS focused (IE; I hate COD and BF4).

I normally don't care for Console FPS's at all and I find the PVE very fun. I haven't tried any of the PVP stuff because I will suck.

I played through the alpha and got a hunter to level 8, game is pretty damn fun. The fps and the third person town, gear upgrades thing makes this seem like Halo and Mass Effect had sex.

Game seems alright. Really wish they emailed me that I got in alpha... Instead I turned on my ps4 to check on my PS+ games and it said I was in. Only played a couple hours, want to save the real fun for release.

So....straight FPS with light versions of MMO/PVE/Gear etc on top? Or is it a light FPS with more focus on MMO type elements? Again, just trying to get a feeling are we talking more Battle Field/COD type gameplay or something like a Smite minus the MOBA elements?

.Just think Borderlands as the core of the game - Then add in a bit of Halo - GW2 style random events, and then some MMO aspects

Well the mobs actually have decent AI, so that makes them nothing like most Borderlands mobs, and way more like Halo.

Man I must be the only person who really digs the Titan. That hammer punch owns everything your level and below haha.

Titan has been my favorite so far in the alpha. But I think with higher levels Warlocks will be more fun.
Didn't play with Titan too much but they felt "slower" to me - might have just been the name biasing me though.

Thats how it felt to me - but im sure before release i'll get to see how they progress and change with abilities and maybe they will look more appealing.

Game is fun, played many hours over the weekend. It didn't "wow" me however.

The game is a lot like Borderlands or Warframe, it also reminds me a bit of that Tabula Rasa MMO. The shooting is fun and thanks to the different weapons varied enough to fit your playstyle. The controls are excellent. They intelligently maxed out the input from the PS4 controller. I really liked that. The graphics are good with some impressive vistas and atmospheric "dungeons". The sound design is great as well and shines on your home theatre system. The Dinkelage narrations are horrid tho, i hope they remix that shit with a few filters. The 3 classes were pretty similar, each with a different melee attack, grenade and one shot ability. I favored the Titan slightly over the other 2.

The things i didn't like were the things i hated on Borderlands as well: For example if you engage mobs 3+ levels higher then you, you practically do 0 damage. The generic caves with generic loot chests containing generic loot was a bit meh. Exploration is not rewarded, you are kinde shepered into these mission beacon areas, killing 20 mobs or collecting droid asses. Also contrary to the general opinion i found the AI quite stupid. I was able to cheese all the supposedly hard mobs, especially those raid bosses are retarded stationary pincussions you needle away at. Every other regular mob was no challenge. Sadly difficulty in general was lacking, i almost never died. And i think of myself as a shitty FPS player.

To sum it up, the mindless killing MMO style is addictive but the game might get repetetive and boring quite fast. I am glad i got to try the Alpha over the weekend, thankfully the hype about this game simmered down a bit.

Yup. Alpha still works. Now, we're gonna test it in expert mode. If you're still playing, pardon our dust. This is for the Beta!
