I ended up getting one from a strike, if you need it I'll be on tonight. With icebreaker I could pretty much solo the lower level one without getting hit. Would be fun to try the high level one

It's a little hard for me to judge because I have a dropped DYK that's much better than the default mods, but for the store-bought versions of DYK and LHF I'd say it's a toss up. Whichever one you have the rep and marks for would be fine.
Really wish Field Scout wasn't so fucking useless on hand cannons. Giving only 1 extra round in the magazine when Field Scout on every other type of gun gives at least +50% is retarded. Field Scout is also pretty derp on rocket launchers. It increases the magazine from 1 to 2, but if the base magazine is 2 then it stays 2 and the mod does absolutely nothing.

I have a blue rocket launcher with tripod, 3 she'll magazine. It's pretty baller for pvp at least

Yeah, tripod works fine. The ideal RL combo is tracking + cluster though, and tripod takes up one of those slots. Field Scout goes in the second column of 3 choices, so it doesn't conflict. It's great if you have a 1 shot magazine, but useless if the RL already came with 2.
Also, Field Scout on other weapons increases the reserve capacity, but does not seem to do that for RLs either. The ones I have let me carry 5 or 6 rockets total (without raid boots), and this doesn't change with Field Scout selected.

Honestly the best purple weapons are going to be random drops/engrams/mail packages that have better mods than the store bought variants. Which is what my Shadow Price is, it's awesome. Persistence (more accurate longer it's fired), Field Scout (mag size goes from 25 -> 42), and Spray and Play (increased reload with empty mag). Spray and Play could have been a better roll but Persistence + Field Scout is awesome. Also has good stability and range to boot.
